ca. 1920 Chicago-style Popcorn Wagon
Leon, My apologies if this thread needs to be moved.
It is threadbare baseball related memorabilia. It was a pleasure to interview former CWU football and baseball coach Billy Lee (he's 97) this afternoon. He's an incredible man, recalled every game he ever coached or played in like it happened yesterday. I brought up some 1939 Roslyn Indians stats and he said so-and-so robbed me of a double in this game versus Ellensburg that year, etc... It was great! After we finished he asked if I collected vintage memorabilia. "Sure, what do you got?" Hoping for some photos or maybe some baseball cards, instead he escorts me out to his backyard and shows me a 1920's Chicago-style Popcorn Wagon. It's in rough shape and has gone through some poorly designed improvements over the years but it's 80% there. According to Mr. Lee it was in his family at Wye Baseball Park in Cle Elum in the 1930's. He had given the popcorn wagon to CWU after WW2. Thus the black and crimson colors. Apparently the university returned the wagon when they opened Leo Nicholson Pavilion in 1960, or when Tomlinson Stadium was built in 1964 he could not recall. It was used until the early 1980's for events in Cle Elum. It looks like it has been on blocks since 1990's. I know nothing of these items, other than an antique popcorn wagon is rare. Since we have such a well rounded group of collectors on net54 I'm hoping a person more knowledgeable on the item can answer some further questions. Thank you all. |

That is cool. Great story and good luck with more info. If it vaguely has something to do with vintage baseball (a 97 yr old that recalls games he was in, does) then I think all is good.
