1940’s Ruth for $4.00
So I will admit the thread title may be a bit click baitey but I could resist. In my efforts to branch out to lesser collected sports I can across a card set that was produced by Leister Games in 1945 for a game called Autographs. The game which is basically like a matching/war like game has 52 cards each featuring the autograph of a famous athlete, artist or politician. The autographs came from a famous autograph collector named Edwin Rowlands. Included are two Babe Ruth Cards ( which Also feature Joe DiMaggio) cards of Red Grange, Joe Louis, Don Bunge and the amazing Frank Sinatra rookie card. And the 4.00 was what I paid per card, not the 1940’s price. Find me a better Ruth for less the five bucks

I think that is a great deal. I would buy all of those I could find at 5 bucks...

Interesting that the bio-pics on the Ruth & Dimaggio are switched but not the others.

Now that we all went on ebay to look and found none, we can relax.

Interesting that it has Babe Ruth’s birthday as Feb 7, 1894 which is the same mistake that the 1933 green Goudey Ruth has. His correct birthday is Feb 6, 1895. I wonder if they got it from that card or if there was some common reference source from that time that had it wrong. Either way, great $4 card.

I can understand getting Ruth's birth date wrong if it was taken from another source which was also incorrect. But I can't figure out why they said "Joe played 2nd base for the N.Y. Yankees". DiMaggio was still an active player at the time (although in the service) so "played" is an odd way to phrase it. And 2nd base is clearly out of left field (or out of center field in this case).
