No. Like the t206 Plank, Piedmont is super rare. Almost all known Wagners are Sweet Caporal 150, and believe factory 25 is more common than factory 30

I have to assume you are referring to Heinie, and in that case I imagine his Piedmont 150 back is the most common. Unfortunately I only have a slightly less common Sweet Caporal example to show.

Some people believe the Wagner's with Piedmont backs are fakes.

For example, some people believe the PSA 8 Gretzky copy (which was trimmed/hand cut from a sheet) and the first PSA graded card ever is fake, especially as no other sheets have surfaced.
It looks real to me, but I am no expert.

Certainly, the John Cobb / Ray Edwards Honus Wagner T206 Piedmont back was a fake.

Has anyone credible ever advanced the "fake" theory? It was never clear to me the source of it.

No, I think it is just a perception people have based off the many odd circumstances surrounding the Gretzky PSA 8 Wagner.

As I recall it had something to do with it appearing on Long Island, but for that to even be relevant one would have to discount Alan Ray's story that his father bought it in Florida.

The Sweet Caporal back makes sense since the Sweet Cap was ATCs best selling brand whereas Piedmont was relatively new ( introduced in 1908).

Interesting. The most common T206 Backs that PSA has graded are the Piedmonts. https://www.psacard.com/articles/art...poral%20brands.

Intuitively one would think there would be more Wagners also. BTW, there’s factual error in the PSA essay. The “ flagship” brand was not Piedmont but Sweet Caporal. Piedmont was a new brand when the T206s were issued.

My understanding is that there are a few real Piedmont 150 Wagner portraits, but only the SC 150s made it into cigarette packs. But now I can't remember where (or if?) I read that.
