That is the saddest news I will hear for a longtime, Terry. I am so sorry. I looked for y'all a few times at the National this year and someone told my y'all didn't make it. The thought entered my mind that your dad might be sick. Please give my condolences to Shirley and the grandkids. He was a wonderful, wonderful person. I am not sure I enjoyed talking to anyone in the hobby more than him.
The first time I met him at the National, about 25ish years ago, he gave me about $16k in cards and told me to pay him when I could. Brockelman told him I was good for it, if I recall.

That's such sad news. It was always so delightful to see the Knouses, pere et fils, at just about every show I was ever at. Nicer people you'll never meet, and Terry, Sr., takes to his grave more knowledge of the real old and rare vintage stuff than possibly anybody ever.

Please allow me to add my condolences. Even though the bulk of his inventory made me an unlikely customer-- and I suspect he knew this-- he was always friendly and sharing hobby knowledge. I always found him extremely pleasant and a real gentleman. Sorry to hear of his passing.

As you know your dad and I did many deals over the years, and he contributed greatly to my collection. I always looked forward to seeing him and your mom each year when the National rolled around.

He was a great guy that had a major impact on the vintage hobby. A wealth of knowledge and I always enjoyed his stories and catching up on his other items he collected.

I bought my first Old Judge from your dad (1887 Tim Keefe pose 251 - 7) at a Gloria Rothstein Show on January 19, 1997 at the White Plains (NY) Convention Center. I was astounded at the sheer number of N172s he had. No one else was even close! I'm still collecting them.

He had so much other 19th century stuff you could spend hours at his tables. He was great to just chat with at shows, too.

I am really sorry to hear this. I enjoyed speaking with Terry every Wilmington MA show he attended. He also collected Boy Scout patches (among many other things) so it was great to talk with him about both 19th century baseball and scouting memorabilia. He always provided great advice and was a pleasure to talk with especially at the scout tradeorees at Camp Carpenter the week before the Wilmington show. It was always a treat to see him and Shirley there.

I only had the pleasure of meeting Terry a couple of times, but he was the kind of dealer and person that you instantly knew was someone you would always appreciate and just wished there were many more of. Kind, mild mannered and trustworthy. When you met him, these very admirable traits made themselves apparent instantaneously.

Condolences to you and your family. I always enjoyed talking with your father and you and your family over the years at The National. I first met Terry back in 97 at my first National and was just in awe of the 19th Century items that he had for sale and his knowledge of the pieces.... Truly Museum Quality stuff year after year.
I specifically remember some of the super rare Spaulding World Tour cabinet cards that were in the cases of amazing items your family always had.

But again, the knowledge and friendliness of Terry is what I will always smile about when I think of him and those wonderful 19th century items. Like Leon stated, I was worried he might be in ill health when I didn't see him set up at the National this year.

I always enjoyed seeing him at the Nationals and chatting. When he found out I was from MN he told me about his Boy Scout badge collection and one of the few he was looking for was from Duluth, MN. Every year after that when I stopped by his first question was if I had found the badge he was looking for.

Dear Terry,

I just now read this sad news about your father. As so many others have noted I was concerned when I didn't see him at this year's National, an event that was dear to his heart.

Your father was a born teacher--he loved to share the knowledge he had acquired about 19c baseball and he did so as enthusiastically and unselfishly as anyone I had met in the hobby. Talking with him was always something I looked forward to since I learned so much from our rich conversations. He was a hobby one-of-one and we will all miss him and cherish his memory.

Terry--I'm so sorry to hear this. Like Kevin, I first met your dad at the Gloria Rothstein White Plains Show about 35 years ago. He always had a great stock of 19th century cards and had a story to go with every one of them. I loved visiting the table because it was such a family affair with you, your mom, Shirley, and your dad (and later your kids).
The last time I saw Terry and Shirley was at the Long Beach show in 2020 I believe. Terry and Shirley had come from Arizona to see some coins. I didn't even notice them walking around till some woman comes over and gives me a hug (your mom). You all always made me feel like family and I am saddened today as if a blood relative had passed away. My best to you and the kids and please give Shirley a hug for me and tell her how much we all love her.

I didn't know your dad well as we had very different collecting interests, but I remember him quite well from being a fixture at shows and always enjoyed perusing his cases with the really rare "old stuff". Not sure why it stands out, but I recall listening to a conversation between him and a collector about the 1800's tobacco "scraps". Always had a sweet smile and a friendly vibe.

I am so sorry to hear your dad past. wow, I can recall always being fascinated by his table and he was so nice to me even though I was hardly a big spender way back when but he would take the time to answer all of my questions. You cold hear it in his voice he sold what he did.

The hobby has lost one of it's truly good guys. He was always there at the National as a reminder of the way the hobby once was and should be. He sold me my first Yum Yum back in the 90s and was always a pleasure to deal with. He will be missed.
