Hello members. Long time lurker here and finally decided to join the group. Looking forward to contribute as I have a background in prewar and postwar all sports since the late 70s.

Welcome, Mel. Do you have any cards you focus on more than others?

No real preference but T206 favorite in prewar and 57 Topps in post war as that was the first set I remember buying packs or putting a nickel in a vending machine.

Quote:
My 2 are T206 and 1955 Topps for pretty much the same reason as your T206 and 57s (BTW - Also born in Texas)

Welcome to Net54, Mel. No place like it. First packs I bought were 1957 Topps. We lived in the suburbs of NYC and went to a lot of Yankee games. It was a thrill to watch the players depicted on my cards do their thing on the field and I'd also hustle autographs from them outside the clubhouse after the game. Didn't have the prescience to have my cards signed, had 'em sign my scorecard instead. Baseball cards, scorecards, Superman comics, and my coonskin cap, none survived the ruthless domestic engineering of my mother. When I took up vintage card collecting around 2000 the very first thing I did was put together a 1957 set. Worked backward through time from there.
A 1957 game-used cap worn (and autographed) by Moose Skowron along with other memorabilia. On a team full of HoFers and mega-stars Moose was my favorite. Go figure.

Welcome once again, Mel. Hope you are enjoying the forum. If I can ever help just let me know.
David, that is a really cool looking display. It brings back childhood memories (I think you are few years my senior but not a lot). Thanks for sharing! .

Thanks, Leon. I'm 75 and beat to hell. Our vintage baseball hobby with its rich trove of history and nostalgia has been a saving grace in an otherwise tough slide into oblivion. It's a source of daily joy. I am grateful for the many friendships that have developed over the past three decades. Some folks have a man cave; I've got a Fortress of Solitude. At present it looks like something out of Storage Wars but in better days it looked more like this:

Welcome! I haven't been here long but can tell you that these guys know their stuff. I've sold a few cards and had positive experiences every time. The level of civility is through the roof internet wise speaking. Thank You Leon for hosting one great site.
