Could someone please shed some light on what I think are Sporting News supplements?

None of those are supplements.
All of them look to be cut from Sporting Life issues, or other newspapers, magazines or books from the eras. Here is a great place to learn about various supplements : https://www.oldcardboard.com/cardSetList.asp?GroupID=10 Last edited by doug.goodman; 09-09-2025 at 02:14 PM. |

Thank you. Is there any collectible value to these? Is there a way to determine where they actually came from?

Hi-
The 6 pages showing the Sporting News composites are probably from the small Sporting News booklets. I think they were produced around 1907 and I think there is a separate booklet for each league. Their value is minimal. Some player or team collectors will be interested, but usually the price has to be under 5.00 per page. Yours are further cutup as well so maybe you can offer the whole lot for 10.00 or less. The complete booklets are really cool. The Cobb is most likely a page from a Reach catalog. It is probably from the year marked on the holder. Someone might pay 5.00 for it but I am not sure. I do not know what the Musial is from but it is also a cutout from a booklet or publication with minimal value. Alan Last edited by aelefson; 09-10-2025 at 05:50 PM. Reason: changed There to Their |

Minimal cash value in my humble opinion, but others may disagree.
There is a guy on ebay who floods many of my searches with old pages and cutouts like these so I assume he makes enough money selling them to make it worth his time. Or maybe he has no life. I think the composites came from old guides (Reach or Spalding maybe/probably), they look like full pages to me, but I could be wrong, what's on the back of them? Based on the slabs, the Cobb came from a Reach guide, the Musial was cut from an issue of TSN. Edited to add - I agree with Alan who posted while I was typing, although he may be a bit optimistic with his "pricing". Last edited by doug.goodman; 09-10-2025 at 05:44 PM. |
