Anyone Ever Seen This Home Run Cigarettes Clock?
Someone sent me these photos of this clock...I think I may have seen one before but I'm not familiar with it...Clearly an advertising piece from the stipulation "Sold Here"...Advertising copy "Quality Not Style Burley Blend Smokes" is consistent with the signs I've seen ...appears to have some wear on the face and I see some small dents on the brass pendulum...so shows some age...Nice to know the maker was New Haven Clock Company...who’s chief principle from 1902 to 1923 was Walter Camp...Camp is known as the father of American football but was also involved in many sports at Yale...including baseball... Q. Anyone ever seen one of these or know anything about it? http://lelands.com/bids/bidplace?itemid=51288

open up the back and check that it is not an India repro clock movement. If not then this type of clock movement was big in the 1900-1930 era

as with most hand made American items, the makers were proud of their work and put their names on everything. The India made items may have some number markings but not the same class

I have never seen this before, but just looking at it (maybe its the pictures), it looks like a cheap refab. Just my gut, but seems to lack the characteristics of age and quality.

Absolutely, look at the wood work. To new. Appears the staining around the windups are not right. JMO.

I may be wrong but not for a minute that I believe that that's an antique oak clock. The Oak in that time Was totally different more like tiger oak. it looks like a cheaper Oak to me.

Time has run out on this one.
There is nothing that is old on this fantasy piece. I did sell Mark Cooper a HR sign that closely resembles the one you are showing :-) That one is real......

Home Run Cigarettes were still being made into the 1960s and possibly into the 70s. It's possible this clock is circa 1960 and not necessarily a repro item, it's just not really old.

Dan
I have to agree with you - your explanation fits - I shouldn't have said fantasy item. If it were a fantasy item likely it would feature a graphic and an attempt at age. Fingers were engaged before brain.

True. The cigs from the 70s has the surgeon generals warning on the side.
