MEARS Winnings
So what did everyone win last night? I missed out on a couple of big ticket items, but did win a couple of Doubleday Field photos and one other unusual photo that I'll try to figure out how to post a link to.

I picked up the Al Lopez Gamer. I wish it was an earlier labeling period, but when they're next to impossible to find, I guess I should be happy. I also picked up the Ethan Allen Bat.
Not a Mears Winning, But I did pick this Cobb last night, so I'm pretty excited Matt

Mears Auction
I ended up with the Buck Weaver bat "set" as well as the Buck Herzog and the Dick Porter. Also got 32 of the original Sporting News drawings.

Matt -- I really think the Al Lopez was a steal -- regardless of condition, that's an incredibly rare bat -- I already have what I believe is the only other known signature model, or else I would have been bidding against you.
Tom -- I only collect HOFers, but I think the Buck Weaver is amazing, and way undervalued. Greg |

I didn't win anything but consigned 2 items. It cost me about 1600.00 to put these 2 display pieces together and ended up with about 350.00 after I pay sellers fees and what it cost me to ship them to them. Great for the 2 people that bought them heartbreaking for me. I guess it's back to Ebay for me to sell.

I don't think the auction closed exactly at 10pm so my "sniping" efforts were for naught but things appeared to be closed a few minutes after the hour. Much better than the last MEARS marathon.
Won a few photos including these: |

David,
I love that middle photo. Here's another shot by Erik Lieber from 2008 that I pulled from the web. It's amazing how little the original grandstand has changed in all these years. |

I've never bought photos before, but did win a lot with 5 "original photos" that I thought was pretty cool. Really only wanted the two below. Not sure what they are classified as but I liked them.

I won the M.R. Campbell Mickey Cochrane bat. The camel logo is one I have not seen before. The bat is cracked, but otherwise the wood finish is beautiful. Does anyone know how I could get more information on how it references to H&B player bat records? It is sidewrtten but hard to read. Bat gets a 7.5.

I know Mike Specht will give certificates documenting the bat manufacturer history for you. He's a well known bat guy and can be contacted at gameuseduniverse.com

JW, sounds like you got a great deal at 25. Interesting that your bat does not have the ring around the logo. Does it say "Oil Treated"?
Thanks for the lead Re:Specht, drc. Looking forward to Mears next auction. Last edited by Mark mccormick; 02-16-2011 at 11:25 PM. |
