Default Sending beaters to a kid: A request

If this is a crazy idea let me know. The son of a friend, age 10, is obsessed with baseball--knows stats and stories going back to t206 days--and just starting to get interested in collecting vintage cards to go with hundreds of more recent ones. I have given him a couple of cards but I really have no beaters to speak of. I had idea of asking folks here to send one of your unwanted older pre-war cards to him--would also be fun for him to get mail from around the USA. Perhaps his parents wouldn't want to give out his address here, in which case they could be sent to me, and I would keep in your envelope and put in larger package (hopefully he would write thank you notes). I know we want to encourage younger generations so I thought this was nice idea--but if not, just say so. Or if you'd contribute, you can indicate that. Thanks. UPDATE: See my note below. Mother has given me permission to give out address.

I don't think it's a crazy idea but I always appreciated the cards that I bought with money I earned.

At that age, I was also obsessed with baseball. To get a gift like this would have blown my mind.

Please also PM me your address. I'd like to contribute some Canadian content.

Regards,

Richard.

Thanks for response so far. I just got permission from his mother to give out his address in PMs so will contact those who want to do this. And invite more to join in. Older cards the best and condition no concern. Thanks again.

One of the greatest collecting memories that I have was from when I was 12 years old. I was featured in a hobby newspaper and was quoted as saying that Pee Wee Reese was my favorite baseball player.

A week later a 1950 bowman Pee Wee Reese autographed card appeared in the mail. I always try to pay back that act of kindness.

Please email me the contact info to:
scottglevy@yahoo.com

Best,
Scott

Thanks for responses--4 or 5 have promised to send cards. If anyone else wants to do it, let me know--no time limit, obviously!

It is not a pre-war card but I have some Brian Holman auto cards and would be happy to send him one. If you think he would like one PM me an address and I will send one out. I looked and you/the kid have 3 to choose from. I have his 89 UD rookie with just his sig. I have his 90 Fleer with his sig. and KB HOF 2007 and I have his card printed by the Nebraska Fellowship of Christian Athletes(very cool card) with just his sig. on it.

I sold Brian a pair of only known error cards of himself a few years ago and he sent me a few autographed cards to me for free. He is a great guy.

Brian is the guy that threw 8 2/3 innings of a perfect game on April 20 1990. Then Ken Phelps hit a home run off him.

Thanks to all who replied, about 8 of you. I will let you know when I hear from kid after he starts receiving them. Perhaps he will have questions about some of them re: year, issue etc. Thanks again.

In an update, the kid in NY has received three packages from you guys and is "in ecstasy" as his Mom says. I am trying to find out which cards have arrived. So far there's at least a 1933 Vance, t206 Criger, a Red Ruffing, and more I haven't heard about. In any event thanks to all who have sent or are sending!
