agree. I am on the fence about even allowing these on our forum? As long as folks know they are cut outs from magazines, and there is that transparency, then I guess it's ok. I might invoke a transparency rule saying that if you sell a magazine or cutout from a publication, you have to disclose it. But then there would be debate on other things that are more mainstream.

I will certainly post any and all info you have about them as we don't know much about them as they were purchased from one of your advertisers.

I would appreciate your expertise and knowledge about them. As I cannot find many of these on the market.

It is page 112 of the 1910 Spalding's base ball gudie. It was cut out of a book that as a whole should be collected, so most people do not like that just single pages out of an entire collectible would be cut out.

An entire book can be bought, so most don't want just one page.

Thanks for input. I would assume many collectors would prefer the pages as they would be a lot cheaper than buying the book at that price

The price is only 7x that of your price of one page. The book has more than seven photos. So the most cost effective way to get the photos is to buy the book. Also, again, most seasoned collectors don't want these in the market because it means someone cut up a full book.

FWIW, I wouldn't have gotten involved as I don't think it is polite to interject in a BST, but you did ask for more info.

Didn't intend to be rude, just stating my opinion. I did not cut up the pages as I don't own a magazine. These were purchased from Lelands a highly reputable dealer who is a net54 sponsor. I'm just listing as that is what I do buy and sell.

I didn't think you were rude, I just didn't want to come off like I was tearing you or your business/hobby down. I wanted to be clear that I wouldn't have interjected if you hadn't asked. Until there is an official rule against these you are welcome to add them, but now you will know for the future what it is your are actually selling.

I'm not intending to insult here, please don't take it that way. Just offering a little insight into what these really are, and what they generally sell for.

I'll start with addressing the slab and grade. Regardless of where these were purchased, or how much was paid. The slab and grade mean absolutely nothing in regards to this item.. Firstly, the grading company, really isn't a company, but rather a guy who sealed 'em up and threw random numbers on them.. Secondly, the numbers will never be considered legit, because we are not dealing with a complete item. BVG which WILL "encapsulate" these(only if it's a full page), will ONLY technically authenticate them, and even that's just a formality for labeling and flip purposes, to go along with the encapsulation.. It's often debated whether or not BVG should even be doing this...

These cutouts, at best, when they pop up on the bay, generally sell for $5 or less, plus shipping. With the notable exceptions being the late 19th century woodcuts, Negro league teams, extremely obscure players(like luis sockalexis and Moonlight Graham), or "very" early team shots with absolute mega-stars like Ruth and Cobb. And for the most part, those don't really sell for a whole lot more than the earlier quoted prices for random pages..

These encapsulated ones, sometimes do sell for more, but not because they are worth more, BUT because some poor inexperienced collector has absolutely no idea what they are actually buying. Which is usually the intention of the seller(again, that statement was not directed towards you), or at the very least was the intention with which they were encapsulated this way in the first place.. Basically, these were slabbed this way by a scammer.. Net54 generally doesn't have the type of novices that would be in the market for these..

Next, they "type" that you have here, rarely sell, even for the $5 or less prices. The only types that seem to have ANY minimal value are generally the single player portraits(assuming they were full page), the full, standard team photos, or the composite types that emulate the w601 Sporting Life premiums... Basically, the type you have here, really has no displayable visual appeal. Which, aside from the few exceptions that I noted earlier, is really one of the only reason that these sell in the first place.

I must respectfully disagree with you, novakjr, on your pricing of these. Can you post the links to all of them that you have seen selling for $5 and less.

I searched eBay Solds and found a different picture than the one you have portrayed. I found them from roughly $10 - $43.00.

I must respectfully disagree with you KC Doughboy.

Your examples illustrated novakjr's point about inexperienced collector's being duped.

Note that both of examples you used avoided making mention that these are cutouts (one of your examples is actually referred to as a "card" in the description), and instead assigned them numbers and referenced their "grades" from companies that are considered credible by nobody except the people who bought the plastic holders and typed the labels.

I don't have any problem with these individual pages being sold. I think they actually make nice display pieces at very affordable prices. You can find them all day long on eBay for $5 to $10 each with Hall of Famers. I just picked one up with Rockne, Lambeau and Gipp on the same page for about $7. But I have a problem with the slab, which in my estimation, is a deliberate attempt to deceive inexperienced buyers by giving the impression that they are buying cards.
