Default Best of 1968 Topps

List (highly encouraged to post pics) your top 5. The criteria of your selection is up to you (photo, great season, error, first card, favorite player, etc.).

We'll do each year starting from 1980 to 1952. I'll start a new year about once a week. I'll close voting a month after the first post of the thread and tally up the results.

With these basic rules...
1. You can only vote for a player's card twice during his entire run (Let's not make this a Mantle and Ryan love fest). Consider that when making your selections.

2. Provide a reason for each choice if you're the first person making that selection. You are encouraged, but it's not necessary to restate the point if someone already said it.

3. Pick only 5. We are going through 29 years, limiting to only Topps regular releases, tough decisions will be made. List honorable mentions if you desire, but they will not be counted in the final tally.

Known as the burlap border set. Reviewing the cards of this set was depressing. Stale poses and reused pictures, this set has more in common with the 1969 set than the design.

Regardless, there are still some gems in the set.

Topps used the same photo in 1969, but this version has the trophy.

This photo received votes in the 1969 version, I'm voting for this version.

This pose was used often in the set, couldn't think of another Santo card to vote for. Therefore this one gets my vote.

Same photo in 1969. I never noticed it, but there is a ball in the air in this photo and Felix is looking at the camera. Pretty cool shot.

Honestly, would we know his name if he didn't appear on another card in the set with Tony Oliva and Roberto Clemente. Not a bad photo, showing off the bunt pose.

Honorable Mentions:
None

I gotta say, the 1968 set is perhaps the most vapid collection of cards in history. As boring as it gets. Ugh.

With that said, the only cards I really like are the Banks that was posted already and Willie Mays. However, I love this Yaz checklist, because it has 4 variations (based on the photo cropping on front and changes in verbiage on back)…and I love variations!!

And what the heck was Topps thinking with Mr. Schneider??? The best picture they could find of him was an airbrushed cap photograph of him in mid chew????? Come on!!!!!

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.
