Default For any photo collectors

I scored a couple great 1930s Jim Thorpe photos from Bruce here at a fantastic price. He has quite a few sports pics right now -- maybe there's one there for you! Most seem to include detailed LOA from RMY Auctions.

Thought this 1964 Steve Carlton was pretty awesome -- apparently leaving for the pros after playing at Miami Dade College.

Bruce is also very open to making deals.

Hmmm... Looks like he bought the photos at RMY and is asking more than double what he paid only a few months ago. I'll pass.

Salty? That’s called free enterprise.

Possibly a bit salty. Yep, it's free enterprise, but that works both ways. I can choose where to spend my dollars.

There was an open auction on these items and it found a market price. I get that there's more eyes on ebay and that might lead to a higher price for the seller, but 110% markup?

I don't feel inclined to reward them for it. That's my perogative. [cue Bobby Brown]

For what it’s worth, I offered 60% of asking price on what I bought and he accepted right away. Maybe I should’ve offered 40%. Regardless, thought it was a great deal on two 90-year-old pics.

I’d never heard of that photo auction house, but I’ll certainly check their auctions in the future.

Everybody is trying to be a flipper these days. I've made strong bids for items, only to get outbid by sellers like Showpiece Sports (autographed balls and caps) or Seaweed (pins), who immediately put them up on eBay with double or triple the prices. I saw a new guy the other day who is doing the same thing with signed mid-century snapshots. Thankfully, much of the overpriced stuff just sits there — I see items on eBay everyday that I got outbid on years ago, like Showpiece's $900 game used caps. I like Gary's perspective — it's a free market, and I'll spend my money elsewhere. I also agree an auction sets the price, not a greedy seller or an impatient buyer.
