Default Vintage Baseball Shop in Greensboro, NC

I’m working in Greensboro, NC for a few weeks, anyone know of any vintage card shops in the area that have prewar cards?

I'm in the charlotte area and would say there are not great vintage card shops. If you want vintage cards your best bet is a card show like the show today at raleigh fair ground or the show in concord in september

I definitely have planned on going there, probably in a few weeks.

I found a 1952 Topps Joe Garagiola at Cards at the Cages in Greensboro. It had some vintage.

Cards at the Cages, off Wendover Ave. in Greensboro - is the biggest LCS in the area. They have vintage, but whether or not prewar probably depends on the timing. This is one of my two LCS’s in the area. I’d say they will make you a fair deal on most vintage, if not a truly great one. Good luck.

AAA Collectibles in Matthews is one of the few shops I know of still near Charlotte, NC. There used to be a ton of them back in the day, but most died out by the mid-1990’s.

AAA is probably going to be hit or miss for vintage. I finally went to this shop a year or so ago, and was surprised at how tiny it was. The owner told me he had just sold like 90% of his vintage showcase a few days earlier in one transaction. Whoops.

If you decide to make the drive to Charlotte, your best bet is Charlotte Sports Collectibles. I was only in there for about 15 minutes, but one of the most impressive vintage selections I have seen at a LCS. BUT from what I saw, less than five cards were pre-war. He did have a '49 Leaf Babe Ruth and '54 Hank Johnston Cookies, which I found to be a surprise just sitting at an LCS. AAA Collectibles is good for building a set, but not many HOFers or "showcase" items.

AAA is a cute little shop and great for lower dollar modern. However new management took it over 2 years ago. I went in asking for pre war and the owner told me he has 2 guys who get first crack at any pre war he gets and it typically doesn't get to the display cases.

Charlotte Sport Collectibles has great vintage but its all PSA 7's or higher. The owner is very proud of his stuff and the store focuses more on autographs. He has a case of graded signed baseballs. In the 3 years I visited I honestly don't think he sold one graded signed baseball.

For me in the Charlotte area, I'll only go to the big charlotte shows. Most of the promoters have large 400+ table shows each weekend. But 250 tables are pokemon and abother 140 tables are modern. However there are a few decent vintage dealers in the area who set up at shows fairly frequently.

Charlotte Sports Collectibles, (CSC) unless I’m mistaken is the modern day successor to what used to be called “Smitty’s” back in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. I remember going there as a kid - long before grading or anything like that. They always had a good vintage selection.

Or if I’m wrong this is a new place with no connection. In any event, I haven’t been to any shop near Charlotte except AAA in many years.
