Default Credit card question

Now that’s its become very common for vendors of all types to add 2-3% on to credit card transactions, what is the logic for large auction houses now to refuse to take credit? I assume many people are comfortable paying higher prices to put something on credit. Is there some other reason why people don’t want to deal with credit cards? Maybe I’m missing something obvious.

I understand and don't see why they wouldn't take a CC, unless they had chargebacks (could very well be the issue). Then an easy payment becomes a crappy issue.

Without talking to any auction houses, I would guess chargebacks would be an issue and concern.

Chargebacks, predominantly. IMO if you're vetting your bidders it doesn't matter, but clearly AH like cash/zelle/wire since they aren't easy to contest, if at all. Additionally, even if having to pay the fee, a lot of cards offer rewards that offset close or all of the cost in the for of cash-back rewards. I have a few that pay north of 2% for all purchases. To your point, many bidderrs would probably extend themselves a bit further with a CC then with cash or wire.

Default Credit card question

If you talk to the guys who run the auction houses they will tell you that it’s all about the ease in which a buyer can dispute a credit card transaction. They want to pay their sellers with the certainty that they won’t be charged back. Credit card companies typically rule in favor of their card holder and it’s a pain in the butt to appeal a dispute.

charge backs. They are very difficult to win. We only take credit card up to $2000 for that reason.

Default CreditCards

Does Goldin Auction require your bids using credit cards only?
And winning total also?
No checks?

Default just for information--eBay sellers protection

Charge backs is an issue, I had a eBay sale of $400.00, items were delivered, buyer said he didn't order and opened a dispute with his credit card provider. The card company of course sided with the buyer, eBay covered my sale with their buyers protection-- I didn't lose any money plus the product!

You mean seller protection, correct?

ETA: in my experience, eBay has been pretty good at protecting me as a buyer and a seller. It seldom comes up on either side, though. I guess the frequency with which one cries foul might factor into things.
