Default Undelivered Card - Just out of Luck?

I bought a card on eBay recently, not a big purchase or anything, $78 delivered after tax. Have purchased from seller at least once before, no problems. Not one of the big few sellers, but a consistent seller with a few thousand in 100% feedback. Card showed as shipped, USPS showed it as delivered, and yet it was never in my mailbox.

I've notified the seller and submitted claims to eBay and USPS. As expected, nobody is sympathetic, as all the "systems" show it was in my mailbox. I can't think where else to turn. Am I just out of luck? Thanks for any brainstorms!

Sorry, no. PayPal balance. Have not engaged PayPal yet. Was thinking they were actually the least likely to be a solution, but haven't really looked into it to be honest.

I would recommend reaching out to ebay customer service. Last time I was in the same situation, I contacted them and they provided me a courtesy refund.

With that said, if an ebay buyer were to routinely make this claim, ebay would not continue providing courtesy refunds in this situation.

The following is just my opinion:

If tracking shows your item as delivered, the seller should be off the hook. Sadly, there are people who steal from people's mailbox. There are also delivery drivers who don't deliver and/or scan items properly. Neither of these scenarios are the fault of the seller; the theft or incompetence shouldn't be their responsibility.

If it were me, I'd contact eBay. It's possible they might refund/reimburse you out of their pocket. Be advised, though, they're likely to make a note of this. One item for $78...sure. Repeatedly claiming an item didn't arrive...eventually that won't work. I'm not saying you'd abuse the system; however, there are people who do.

Another option is to ask your local Postmaster to look into this. You can also ask the person who typically delivers your mail. If the item is sitting at the Post Office (or in a delivery vehicle, etc.) at the time you ask, your inquiry might be enough of a catalyst to get it delivered to you.

One last option is to ask your next door neighbors. Every so often, I get my neighbors' mail. It happens.

I hope you and your card get together soon.

Yep...this.

I had the same thought. I'm just not as concise as Larry, nor do I type as quickly.

Yep this. It's happened to me a few times, usually it's at a house with our same number one street over.

Has any time passed, or did this happen today?
The same thing has happened to me a bunch of times and either it was wrongly delivered to my neighbor (who took a couple of days to return it...don't get me started) or it showed up a day or two later in the regular delivery, which was surprising and unexplained.

When did USPS show as delivered?

I’ve had it happen a couple of times where my package was delivered to a neighbor. Once next door neighbor (3611 vs. 3613 street number) and once to the correct street number but one street over.

Ditto this

I had a card show as delivered and I asked the postmaster and mailman to send me a picture of the house delivered to and it was across the street from me a block away. Always ask for as much clarity as you can.

Seems like you did a lot of due diligence with EBay and seller too, best of getting the card!

Matt, did the person that it was delivered to let you know they had it or did they try to return it to the post office?

Edited to add - the postal carriers in my area suck, except for one that used to deliver to my home but took a different route.

Pretty crazy story. I bought a card off Net54 back in May and the postal office showed me a picture of delivery once I requested the manager of the post office give me more info. While I couldn’t identify the house, I knew they delivered incorrectly, so they refunded the seller the cost of the card who refunded me.

3 months later a realtor noticed a package at a house that was foreclosed. Turns out it was my long lost 54 Whitey Ford and she delivered it to my house. Absolutely wild.

I had this happen to me but it was with a major auction house. They requested I file a police report and refunded me after I provided them with a copy. Nothing came of the theft though.

Hey all, thanks for the input. Positive update here!

I reengaged with eBay using the tenor of the suggestions in this thread. They refunded the purchase within a few days with a nice note appreciating my long-time business and exceptional record on eBay. So while eBay is an easy target in the hobby, I have to give them a compliment when due: very good experience in this matter.

I probably would not have tried this approach after the first denial from eBay but for the suggestions here, so thank you all, too!

I have this happen once a month sadly. I have a rotating cast of characters for the mail route the last couple years and I think one is the weak link. I get the notice it was delivered but it can then take 3 to 7 days to actually show up at my door. I think they just scan everything delivered and leave it in the truck as it is a foot route and they don’t feel like carrying packages.

Recently I had an auto show delivered and took 12 more days to show. At least they eventually show up. It has caused me to be verrrrrry hesitant to contact sellers or eBay on delivery issues as I seldom get a real issue.

Genuinely annoys the hell out of me though.

You should go speak to postmaster for gps data or picture of delivery house. They can do that but you might have to be persistent…
