N29 Spellings

I just got my first N29 today, and noticed that James Ryan is identified as a "CENTRE FIELDER." The british spelling. Is this true for all N29s? Does anybody know of 1880s cards that used british/american spellings in similar situations?

I'm amazed ast the "britishness" of 19th century cards. All the Tobin Lithographs are saying British things. The N28 Anson looks like a British army officer stationed in India in the middle of the century.
