Default OT: Need help with a non-baseball card

Posted By: jay behrens

I am in need of a scan or picture of a Duke Kahanamoku card from late teens or early 20s that feature a real picture of him and if I remember correctly, the border is either gold or a brassy/brownish color. I can't remember the set, but I do know it is quite rare. Any help in matter would be appreciated as it is needed by someone that will ultimate publish an article on sports cards and he would like a picture of this card.

Thanks,
Jay

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home I would be arrested, so I go to baseball games and fit right in.

A quote from Jay's great memory bank:

Jay, you had "the border is either gold or a brassy/brownish color" down pat, but you'll have to do somethin about memorizing the name of the card sets.

In my days, we use to call them crafty lefthanders.

Fatboy, thanks for the picture, link and time frame.

Joe

Yep, that was card. I was surprised to see it on eBay and found it shortly after I posted this. I stopped looking for the card about 2 years ago. I had seen only 2 on eBay in 5 plus years. The last one I saw was about 4 years ago, was NM and went for over $2k.

This could be the Pan Handle Scraps card, as he is standing in his track uniform. One just sold on ebay, item # 6114160534.

I've seen 4 of those Pan Handle Scraps cards of the Duke on ebay in the past few years. This last one went relatively cheap ($271). Prior to that I saw an SGC30 (or 40) sell for about $350 or so.

I collect Duke stuff so I kind of keep track of it. I've posted a pic I scanned from a newspaper, enjoy!
