Graded or raw, doesn't matter. Also have decent stuff (Cobbs, Ruths, Gehrigs) to trade.

  • E101
  • E94, red background
  • E94, purple background
  • E107 (type 1)
  • Rose Company postcard

Thanks, Rob

Leon - I have several sitting around that I'd like to sell. It's been very tough trying to find a buyer for them as they are much less popular then the other background colors for some reason. They really aren't worth all that much to me, especially the 4 Lajoies, so I'll charge you a flat amount of $100 and you can take as many as you'd like.

Rob:

Please stay away from cards who show players wearing old, over-sized glasses. I am collecting those and already have several of a guy who used to play ball in the 1980's. If these types of cards come in multiple colors, I would pay TOP DOLLAR (much more than Leon) for cards that are PURPLE.

Brad, I'm pretty certain that the player featured in your cards wearing the large, oversized, unfashionable glasses was also wearing purple bell-bottoms at the time of the photo shoot. Damn that photographer for not taking full body shots for the cards.

Is it unusual that the "Let's Crap On Rob D." thread has migrated all the way from the main board to the B/S/T?

Nobody is crapping on Rob. In fact, right after Rob posted, he emailed me to ask if I could come up with some way to make his post more interesting so that many people would respond to it and keep it at the top of the page. Before I had a chance to response Josh and Leon had posted their replies; I assume they got emails from Rob as well with the identical request.

Two thoughts:

1) it's no fun making fun of Rob in this thread considering the fact that his sarcasm as evidenced here is harsher than all of ours combined;

2) what a sad realization it is for me that I have to rely on a secretary whose sole purposes are card scanning and photoshop -- and I'm out of the office today and unable to doctor my few Lajoies.

I now have this scene in my head of Mr. Drysdale bursting out his office and shouting, "Miss Hathaway, make me a scan of a Lajoie Sporting Life cabinet with a Leroy Neiman mustache on it! And be quick about it!"

No, no, no!

Drysdale was a banker, not a lawyer!

The guy you're thinking of is a cross between Perry Mason (yelling at Della Street) and Arnie Becker (yelling at Roxanne.)

(Honestly, I tried to find a comparison to Ben Matlock, but can't remember a regular secretary for him.)

Rob - I wish I would have known you were looking for an E94 Lajoie - I didn't see your post above until after I read Leon's and he asked for all 4 that I had. Perhpas you have something he'd want in trade, like a kidney.

Leon:

I am interested in buying the picture of you wearing the old, over-sized glasses. The picture will fit right into my collection. However, I need to know how large the picture is. I looked for your traditional quarter to indicate the size of the picture, but you failed to scan the quarter with the picture. Please advise.

Those are about actual sizes. I am sure that was our team pictures (the baseball one of course) and don't think we had a very good field. That was in Houston, where the picture was taken. My guess is that a lot of us older farts didn't look a lot different back then. I was always odd man out as I had long hair and was somewhat of a jock....

I have to say that the hippie Leon pic is at the equal to Rob's Diablos (in fact, I'm fairly certain that the glasses in both pictures are identical). Leon, I'm just sitting here trying to figure out how your parents let you out of the house looking like that....

Brad, if you have any Lajoies to trade I have this autographed, no glasses showing, proof of Rob. I'm not real sure if the autograph is authentic though.

Sorry Rob I couldn't resist. Ruocco found this the other day between a stack of 100 or so Andy Benes photos. happy.gif

Clint,

Was that photo taken during the start of the "Steroid Era" in baseball?

Edited to add - 30+ posts on the BST is pretty impressive. Usually to get that many, you have to have titles like: "Cash Is King" or "Advertising Really Pays Off."

Clint:

I might be interested in the photo, if you can have the signature authenticated by Upper Deck. I would also be interested in any game used uniforms, hats, batting gloves and leather spikes. I would also be interested in game chewed Copenhagen (DNA testing required to authenticate).

I probably can't afford to buy your autographed photo, but would be willing to trade the following. Although it is not autographed, I have reason to believe that it is rare!

Wow, I return home from a father-daughter dance to find that a "Lajoies wanted" post has digressed into, well, I don't know what. A few points:

  • Clint, the fact that there was only one autographed Dewolf photo amidst a stack of Andy Beneses (Beni?) must be proof as to which was the better seller.
  • Brad, your belief in that card being rare is correct, if only because being able to capture on film me hitting a home run that really mattered was akin to snapping a legitimate Polaroid of Nessie in the loch.
  • Jim, the quality of steroids available to minor-leaguers were, like everything else at that level, minor league. Look no further than that photo for proof.
  • If this thread doesn't net me an E101 Lajoie, there's no justice in the world

The steriods must have been pretty good in the minors - just look at those veins popping in your arms. Holy smokes dude, you were ripped.

Are you telling me that Rob's cards are selling for less than the shipping price? That is outrageous! Rob, I'm buying them both, putting a cigar stamp on the back and then selling them each for 150K as rare underprint cards. I may also throw in a sexy rooster gratis in order to "goose" the bidding (pun intended).

Just got the 4 little ones to bed and I am laughing outloud as I am reading all of this. The Mrs. just walked by and said once again as she sometimes does while I'm on the forum "SOME OF THESE PEOPLE NEED TO GET A LIFE!" INSERT SMILEY FACE HERE, because I don't know how!

Oh, I do have a red E98 Lajoie for sale! Good luck on your search.

Love the 70's theme!

Nah! As I said earlier, some of Bruce Dorskind's posts run longer, but we'll keep bumping this one and see what happens.

Apologies in advance for taking this thread off track and focusing on a Lajoie card.

Tim, I have a red E98 Lajoie that I got from Tbob, who regretted selling it to me about a day after mailing it. I know for the longest time he was looking to replace it, and if he hasn't yet, I'm sure he'd welcome the chance to pick one up.

Maybe he'll chime in here, or you could contact him.

OK, back on topic now: Anyone watch Hill Street Blues tonight?

Edited to add: Just read Jim's post above. Wanted to add: CASH IS KING! (Oh yeah, and: Trust no one.)

Here's the longest one I could find:

(Got a little nasty. Makes this one look like white bread.)

Rob,

What channel is Hill Street Blues still on? I loved that show. I just watched Casablanca, for about the 27th time.

Jim and Rob,
You are correct, this is not the longest, but it is kinda funny to read. I guess I forgot about how Bruce's threads in the BST can get a little long too. Most of the time I only see the long ones on the forum page.

Oh, I didn't see Hill Street Blues, but I am watching a rerun of CSI: NY now that the Bud Shoot Out is over in Daytona. Great Race, Kevin HArvick is your winner!

Whose cards did you want to buy again?!!!!!
