Seller's reaction on ebay- that E94 Cobb
Posted By: Bob
I recently emailed the seller of the E94 Cobb and asked him about the card. I mentioned to him that the card appeared to be orangish rather than the gold color normally seen and was the color a result of a scanner or was that the actual color. (I have seen some reprints of E94s which look orangish, much like the orange color backgrounds of the E98 set, although I didn't mention it to him). I also asked him if I won the card, would he guarantee authenticity? I planned on shipping it to SGC to grade and I told him any grade, even an "authentic" grade would be acceptable. |

he says 3 day money back guarantee...Bob...doesn't that inspire confidence? Card looks ok to me...but you're more of an e94 connoisseur than me. |

Auction was ended and then relisted with a BIN of $1500. If I was certain it was real then I hit the BIN, but I'm staying away on this one! |

For someone that mean-spirited, he sure wished another seller to show compassion (see his third feedback) What a schmuck. Incidentally, I know little about that set, but that thing shouts counterfeit. Steve F |

Besides being offered by a clueless seller...... Creases dont look right to me the surface should crack a little and show some white somewhere along the crease (I would think). The blue tint to Cobbs picture, the background color being blotchy, and caption is strange looking too. I would not buy it for $100, let alone $1500. But thats just me I dont like chances too much. |

Frank.....I thought same thing. Looks more like creases on a reprint card that has more waxier surfaces. Creases on real E and T cards will break the paper more. |

That is a fake of Pete's card. Looking at the back. I see many of the same spots in the exact loccation as on Pete's card. Look to the right of Grant's name at that dark spot. It is on both cards. Look at the name Dougherty. Let's make this educational. Can you spot other spots, missing text etc. common to both cards. There are many. |

Robert- You've never seen an E94 reprint? I have seen several. Frank is right, all E94 reprints are homemade jobs there has never been an E94 reprint set. There are so few E94s for sale and most of them are slabbed so you probably see very few raw ones and most of them (not all) are legit. Hammered, but legit. |

What are the chances that two gold E94 Cobbs would both have the last letter, the "l" in National in the line "Bates Philadelphia National" be missing? In the words of McCreedy, the leader of the Royal Rooters, "'Nuff Sed." |

At first I think he really didnt know it was fake. Originally he didnt know what set the card was from, then he was sort of greedy (relisting it with a reserve) when he found out it had a high book of $9,000+. Most scammers dont end auctions early to relist higher. By the 3rd auction (or was it the 4th) I think he knew it was a fake, and he then listed it in a 3 day auction with a $1,500 BIN. |

When I first started thinking about going after this card but had questions as to authenticity, I emailed a very noted caramel card collector and asked him his opinion about the validity of this card and the guy, who knows more about caramel cards than anyone, said unequivocally that it was without a doubt ok and authentic. Just goes to show with these doggone reprints, fakes and reproductions that even the experts can be fooled sometimes. |
