Default Back Run Bonanza!

Let's see your active and completed back runs! It's been a while since we've done this and I always love seeing what people are working on...and why.

I've been working on the Herzog Boston backrun for about 2 years now. He and I share the same birthday, and I really like the pose.

Almost all of these were acquired via the BST. The best damn place to buy and sell pre-war cards.

I have 2 I'm working on at the moment, the Young shown in the Sept pickup thread and the Davis. I started the Young do to having a couple of the key ones when I was doing sets and freaks (Nadja, blue, E78) and the rest seemed pretty easy from there. The Davis is one of my favorites cards in the E92 set.

This is going to be an amazing thread. I am working on, and have substantially completed, but do not have the time or patience to post right now:

E92 et al: Wagner Batting, Wagner Throwing, and Cobb on bat
T206: Tinker bat off, Evers Yellow Sky, Chance Yellow portrait, Speaker
D304: Cobb

I think back runs are awesome. I also think they are generally terrible investments bc we often (over)pay what we must to get some combos that only matter to us. That can be somewhat mitigated if you collect the better players.

These are great runs guys, congrats! Keep’em coming

Hi Bill

You have a great run there. Herzog (Boston) is one of my favorite T206 cards, too.

I once owned this Herzog, then I sold it to David Hall. If I still had it, I would offer it to you. Since David auctioned off his master set, this Herzog
is somewhere out there. Here's hoping you will eventually end up with it.

Always one of my favorite types of thread - great work everyone.

This is a 6 year old picture, and it's on my list of things to do to redo this and add all of the cards I have added to this grouping - but for now it'll do!

They say patience is key in this hobby

Waited ten years to add a new Chase to the run.

At the 2007 Philly Show in Reading, PA, Toby (bigfish) made my weekend, by selling me this Frank Delahanty DRUM card. Finally, I completed this A - B - C - D run.
I'd been searching for this DRUM for many years. I have yet to see another one, since I acquired this one. Yes, it is a "unique" T206.

On display here is my first AMERICAN BEAUTY - BROAD LEAF - CYCLE - DRUM connection.

Jay, those are awesome.

VCP only has 3 total sales in the last 12 years of the WaJo Drum. A PSA 4 sold in 2019 for $75k. That one is a crossover from a previous SGC 4, I believe. There is also a PSA 1.5 out there missing a corner. Super tough card, hope you can eventually find one to complete your run

From my experience working on T206 and T205 runs, I gained an appreciation for certain printing patterns of the T205 cards.
Examples of these are....

1st.....American Lithographic printed exactly 32 - T205 subjects with the A - B - C - D connection.

2nd....HINDU cards and DRUM cards are Mutually-Exclusive.

3rd....The A - B - C - D cards and the T205 AMERICAN BEAUTY (Green) cards are Mutually-Exclusive.

Harry Wolter is one of the 32 subjects printed in the A - B - C - D group. I believe this Wolter run is complete with 11 cards.

Therefore, I am still looking for his HONEST LONG CUT back.

Here is one of my favorite T206 runs.

American Lithographic divided the 46 subjects in the 460-only series into 2 print groups. This McGraw was printed in the Exclusive 12 group. Each of the 12 subjects in this group
were printed with 13 different backs. And the 13th card, the UZIT, was a lucky number for me here.

In response to many requests (I wish! ) to see another real-photo, black & white back run, here's my WaJo with the hands-at-chest pose. Surely, someone else has a b & w back run to show.

I'd very much like to add to this back run. Will purchase or trade. Have good stuff to trade, such as T206s of WaJo with scarcer backs (e.g., Am. Beauty, Cycle, Old Mill, Piedmont 42, Sovereign, Tolstoi, etc.) and tough type cards (e.g., G & B Gum, 1910 All Star Base-Ball, D304 Martens, Western Playground, etc.).

Default Red Ink "Twins" > HINDU and SWEET CAPORAL 350-460 Factory #42 cards

The guys in the 350/460 Series group (35 subjects) are considerably tougher to find with the red HINDU backs, than the Exclusive 12 group.
It is a long-term work in progress. I have a few of them from this Series. This Hal Chase and the Mike Donlin are my "Red Ink Twins" favorites.

.

.

------

Checklist…...

All 35 subjects have been confirmed with the SWEET CAPORAL 350-460, Factory #42 back in the 350/460 series.

To date, 32 subjects have been confirmed with the red HINDU back in the 350/460 series.

Baker
Bender (no trees)
M. Brown (Chicago)
Chance (portrait-yellow)
Chase (blue)
Chase (dark cap)
Cobb (red portrait)
Davis (A's)
Donlin (bat)
Doolan (bat)
Dougherty (arm in air)
Downey (bat)
Larry Doyle (bat)
Elberfeld (Washington-fielding)
Evers (Chicago-yellow sky)
Griffith (bat)
Johnson (pitching)
Joss (pitching)
Kleinow (Boston)
Konetchy (glove low)

Magee (bat)
McIntyre (Brooklyn & Chicago)
Murphy (batting)
O'Leary (hands on knees)
Rucker (throwing)
Seymour (throwing)
Snodgrass (catching)
Stahl (glove)
Street (fielding)
Sweeney (fielding)
Willis (throwing)
CYoung (glove)

The following 3 subjects have yet to be confirmed with the red HINDU back. I expect all 3 will eventually be discovered.

Ames (hands above head)
Mathewson (dark cap)
Reulbach (no glove)

Bill, Phil and Chad, thanks for your kind words re my hands-at-chest WaJo run. In response to no requests to see another real-photo, black & white back run, here's my WaJo with the throwing pose. I'd love to add a couple to this run!

Note: In the last group of cards there are two adjacent cards with blank backs. One card is readily recognized as a W501 Type 1 because it has "G-4-22" and card number "17" printed on the top border. The other card card is a W501 Type 2, which is identical except for the absence of printing on the top border.

Ted, of all the great cards you've shown in this thread, the card that really knocks my socks off is your T214 of Chase.

Not sure how I missed this thread its first time around, but glad it got bumped. Some amazing stuff here.

I finished my Duffy run a little while back.

Love the Duffy run! One of my first attempts at a run (EPDG not shown) and interestingly enough I traded the RH to acquire the Chase blue port Lenox.

Just noticed your Cycle 460 & OM are the same cards in my old run

Thanks Chris! Landing that Cycle was probably what started me seriously thinking about completing the run, after I had started it all with an AB, purchased off BST 10+ years ago.

I'm pretty sure I got my Cycle through Sterling, maybe 8-9 years ago(?) Curious, did you consign it there? Regardless, those are some amazing cards/runs you've put together.

Still have the Uzit to go. Another one might show up some day since I dont think Ted is going to turn loose of his.

I have shown these Cravath cards before, but I finally arranged them into a proper run format after an agonizingly ridiculous resizing of existing scans session.

I am calling this incompletely complete, missing just the near impossible (both availability and potential price, at least for me) Carolina Brights back. Three of them could use some upgrading, but it is likely that I will only go after an upgrade on the relatively common Sweet Caporal factory 30 card.
