My Babe Ruth original photo by Paul Thompson c. 1920.
My Babe Ruth original painting by Graig Kreindler 2007. Not only is Graig a buddy of mine, he is an incredible talent. Judge for yourself. You will NOT be disappointed. http://www.graigkreindler.com/thumbnails/paintings.html BTW... Graig will be in Cleveland for the National. Once I get his booth number, I'll post it. babethompson.jpgBabeBYGraigKreindler.jpg |

I have a few pieces of original art.
Here are 2 examples, my smallest & largest The Eddie Plank is from Helmar Beer and is scheduled to become a smaller card. Hopefully it will be in their next series, perhaps this summer. This piece was sent to me after visiting L.A. last year, Thanks again Anthony! For some reason Drysdale face appears yellow in the photo, it actually has flesh tones and is stunning against the yellow backround. |

Cou
This has to be one of the Best COU cards I have seen. Bought it on Ebay about 2yrs ago. Card looks and feels as real as my others I had. Graded COU by SGC then I sent to PSA and it graded an A because of trimming. Thats another story. Now it is just a Lesson to me and others that there are great artist (counterfieters) out there. And yes I removed it from the Slab

Thanks for the info JBirkholm. I never did much research as to dating it. I just assumed it was 40's-50's time frame.
To answer your question your Mark, I have yet to see the print ad (assuming the design made it to print). Would love to see it if its out there though. |

Jodi's info on the green pack would indicate early '40s at the latest. Can't argue with fact, I suppose. I just thought the design and player's uniform looked more modern. Something about it looks more streamlined and tight-fitting than what one normally associates with the '30s era. Either way, it is a visually stunning piece... hope that someday you discover the actual print ad to accompany. Wouldn't it be cool to leaf through an old magazine and stumble upon it?

Here's another Sporting News cartoon, this of Sam Chapman. Somewhat unusual in that colour background is present in the drawing, although I'm not sure whether that is just part of the printing process and whether it shows in the printed cartoon

BEAUTIFUL Riger piece. I've always loved his photos, but maybe more so, his beautiful draftsmanship...

Original Signed Virgil Ross "Bat" Boy Sketch from "Baseball Bugs"
Of the very many characters Ross animated, he is most closely associated with Bugs Bunny, but also did a great deal of work involving Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Tweety, and many others, including Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote.
Virgil Ross received the highest awards available in his profession: the Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists Golden Award (1984) and the Winsor McCay Award (1988). Four of the cartoons he had animated won Oscars. baseballBUGS.jpg |

Reviving this thread with the newest piece in my collection.
This 5x7 painting was commissioned by Topps for their 2018 Gallery set and is the very image found on Zack Greinke's card within the set. The art was created by Dan Bergren and was done as a pencil sketch with airbrush for the background, flesh tones and larger sections featuring color, while acrylic paints were used for the finer details and the uniform. Greinke only appears on three Gallery cards featuring original art so far throughout his career and as far as I know is not featured on any original art in other Topps sets. I realize that this piece is quite new compared to much of the artwork shown in the previous posts however, that is one of the reasons I was drawn to the piece. Now don't get me wrong, I love baseball cards and there are many great issues and sets produced these days, however, in a day and age when a new card can be designed, edited and printed at warp speed, there is something refreshing to be found in this piece and as someone who dabbles in art myself, I can also fully appreciate the talent and detail that a piece like this commands! Babe Ruth Mosaic
This is made up of hundreds of Topps micro-cards 1991-1993. If you are standing right in front of it, it looks like a sheet of uncut cards. When you get farther away it looks like this...
