Box design cards
I like to collect box design cards that are still on the boxes.I have assembled a fairly extensive and diverse collection and will post pictures of some tomorrow.
But for now members, please post photos of your similarly issued cards and boxes. I'm eager to learn what else is out there. Many thanks, Craig. |

These progressive proofs and print error Wade Boggs cards are off the side of O-PEE-CHEE wax boxes.

Box Design ?
Not sure what that term refers to. I have collected all the Topps box top card sets listed in SCD ( usually in panels cut from the boxes but sometimes singles as well. I do not collect boxes). But since you seem to indicate the thread should have been in pre 1980, not sure what you are referring to. I guess your scans will answer my question. Here is one difference between a box card and regular issue card

I always tried to cut off the cards from cereal boxes, card boxes and other items, even if they were not 100% complete. Not sure if that is what is meant, as I am thinking more about the boxes that actually had cords on them to cut out (Jello, Transogram, Kelloggs, as well as the later 80s Topps/Fleer/Donruss/Score box bottom and side panel cards. Here are a few of my favorite non-card clippings…thought i had the 80 Kellogg cereal box single as well, but must not have scanned it. Of course the Garvey hostess minis are not that hard to find given it was on many of the boxes and it seems many were saved.

Corrected Term
Sorry Al and others for my poor choice of term yesterday in my first post. It does not reflect accurately the cards I collect. "Cards on boxes" would have been a better choice of term. Would still like to see examples from others with similar card/boxes. Following are some examples from my collection.
Thanks, Craig |

A sincere thank you
A sincere thank you, Craig, for taking the time, trouble, and so forth to upload photos of your passion. Not only is "card on boxes" a very worthwhile thread, you have obviously collected some dynamite gems from among the sport cards printed as part of the box packaging. I'm computer-illiterate when it comes to these things, and I tried to have my son help me upload the cover of my forthcoming book on a CD regarding postwar regional / food issues.
Sadly, the image was of such massive bits (over 5 times the limit for this forum); however, on one's computer screen the CD book images display beautifully! You would have noticed a mate of your 1962 JELL-Os---Mickey Mantle. Nuts! Oh well, I tried. I will calm myself by remembering the soothing end of their commercials at the time: "J-E-L-L-O". Thanks again; hope you get more responses. These have been good. I can't understand why my book cover would be that many bits over the limit. --Brian Powell Last edited by brian1961; 01-01-2015 at 08:20 PM. |

Just a memory, Craig, but worthwhile and it speaks volumes of the deep undercurrent desire for regional / food issues. A hockey collector was offering $7000 well over 10 years ago if anyone had a 1950 Royal Pudding box with a free hockey card prize to cut out on the box back---that of legendary Gordie Howe. Compared to the value of Gordie's vaunted Parkhurst rookie at the time, the Royal Pudding Gordie Howe was a king-sized ruby, whereas the Parkie was a nice but cheap citrine. He wanted that regional Howe rarity something awful. I don't know if he ever got it, but he sure made his desire loud and clear. ---Brian Powell
