August Pickups...
Since I'm always awake when everyone else is sleeping, here we go...
I just won this 1958-61 Mantle PSA 6 just a few hours ago and think it will make a nice companion piece for my 1958 TYPE I Photo taken by the great Don Wingfield. 1958-61-JAYpublishingMANTLEbyWINGFIELD_PSA-6.jpg mantlebywingfield.jpg |

Here are two photo of 16 year old Edd Roush playing with the Oakland City, Indiana Walk Overs. The first is a real photo PC that is also featured in the book "The Glory of Their Times". In the cabinet photo, Roush is in the center of the top row.

Wow, incredible score Greg!
I went to an auction today and picked up 9 bats of Lincoln Chiefs players that a lady when she was a young gal picked up...she would go down to the dugout whenever a player broke a bat and ask for the bat. Also snagged a nice Goldsmith catcher's mask that I'll probably put up for sale.

Mark --
I found the photos on ebay with no reference to them being of Roush. Dan -- love those bats, that's a very cool instant collection. I saw you made another post about cleaning them. Some people would tell you to leave them as is, but I think they'd look good cleaned up. Murphy's does work well, but I think Matt (mghpro) is more of an expert than I am. Greg |

Thanks Greg...they definitely need a good cleaning, they are dusty, cobwebby and even had some spider eggsacs on them...I think she probably stored them in a garage.

Toby, what's on the reverse of the Gehrig photo? I've seen that one re-printed many times.

Dan
I just posted on the other thread.. Great Find! Oil soaps not going to do much for them. I'd hit them with some lemon oil and they should clean up nice. Matt |

c. 1900's Cowan's Base Ball Choc. Box/'50's Football Display/ D&M Major Lg Spec. Bat
Picked up a few items this weekend-
1) a vintage wooden box from my hometown (Toronto), sized like a typical cigar box. It has "Cowan's Base Ball Milk Chocolate One Cent Cakes" and "Made in Canada" on the lid. Has "The Cowan Comany Limited Toronto" on the side (front edge). 2) Large, 1950's? "2 Way" cola counter top display[/B] with a b/w football photo scene. Heard of this cola or its manafacturers before? 3) D&M Sporting Goods, No. 25, 32 inch, "Major League Special", "Made in the USA" bat. Lots of use. Not sure how old this bat may be?

Picked up a sweet lot on EBAY that contained 35 autographs of Negro/Latin ball players from the late 40's-early 50's.
The scans are the highlights of the lot which include the one I really wanted most, the Sammy Bankhead. Throw in 2 Brewer's, 2 Trouppe's and the rest and I was real happy with this purchase. Steve |
