Hello all,
Like Paul, I too am new to the board and making my introduction. After collecting cards as a kid, I came back into the hobby as an adult 10 years ago. My focus as a collector has been putting together 3 sets for my kids - a set of HOF players (no managers, Execs, but including the Negro Leaguers), and sets of any MLB player who played collegiately at either my school or my wife's. The experience has been enough to get my "feet wet", though obviously Im still a relative neophyte to many on the board. My question to you (since I can always learn more): What resources do you use to research existing cards on players? For example, Andy Cooper is a Negro League HOF. For all that I know the number of cards produced for him are quite low. I've been able to find a handful of graded Cuban cards, but other than that I don't know what else may be in existence. I mainly utilize eBay and search the graded populations for SGC, Beckett and PSA to find cards by player; but Im quite certain that Im missing out on areas of information. Thanks! |

Hey, Rich:
Welcome to the board! There are many knowledgeable people here that can certainly help point you in the right direction. A good start might be the OldCardboard website where a Baseball HOF Rookie Card database was recently compiled. Here's a link to the webpage: http://www.oldcardboard.com/ref/rookies/RookiesList.asp If you have any questions on it, please feel free to ask. |

Phil is being far too modest here and has neglected to mention that database was his work.

Paul- welcome to the board.
What college did you and your wife attend, and what major league players do you know of that played there? |

Rich - welcome to the forum!
Another great resource for player checklists is www.vintagecardprices.com. Using and searching their checklists is free. Last edited by Matt; 02-16-2010 at 09:47 AM. |

Thanks for all of the links. I'll check through them shortly.
Barry - I went to Texas A&M and my wife went to LSU (both producing numerous players). I feel extremely confident in my lists for the schools, but I'll list them out for grins: A&M Allen, Chad Atchley, Justin Balenti, Mike Beirne, Kevin Bell, Roy Beau Blank, Matt Bonner, Robert Camilli, Lou Carden, John Clemons, Chris Collins, HW Rip Corbett, Sherman Davis, Steve Fossum, Casey Granger, Jeff Griesenbeck, Tim Henderson, Bernie Hollmig, Stan Hunt, Joel Jackson, Zach Johnson, Davey Katt, Ray Kensing, Logan Knoblauch, Chuck Landrum, Jess Little, Bryan Twig Livingstone, Scott Lueken, Rick Magallanes, Ever Moon, Wally Moore, Trey Mooty, JT Jake Neel, Troy Pennington,Cliff Pippen, Cotton Peden, Les Rau, Doug Ray, Robert Reed, Eric Rigney, EE Topper Robertson, Rich Ross, Mark Ruggiano, Justin Rupe, Ryan Sheldon, Roland Sodd, Bill Swan, Russ Thurmond, Mark Tyner, Jason Wunsch, Kelly LSU Ainsworth, Kurt Adcock, Joe Bill Baird, Al Barker, Sean Belle, Albert Blair, Buddy Bowie, Jim Byrd, Paul Corcoran, Roy Cress, Walker Dark, Alvin Flair, Al Fontenot, Mike Freeman, Mark Greene, Rick Guthrie, Mark Hawpe, Brad Hetzel, Eric Hill, Aaron Hodges, Trey Howell, Roland Johnson, Russ Jorgenson, Ryan Keisler, Randy Kerlin, Orie Larson, Brandon Laxton, Brett Leskanic, Curtis Linden, Todd Madison, Dave Manuel, Barry McDonald, Ben Mercer, John Miley, Mike Moock, Joe Morris, Warren Mouton, Lyle O'Donoghue, John Ogea, Chad Osik, Keith Parker, Clay Reboulet, Jeff Rios, Armando Rowell, Carvell (Bama) Ryan, Connie Sadler, Billy Sheets, Andy Sirotka, Mike Smith, Greg Springer, Russ Stavinoha, Nick Swanson, Art Red Tallet, Brian Theriot, Ryan Vargas, Jason Voigt, Jack Walker, Todd Wallace, Jack Wiles, Randy Wilson, Brian Womack, Sid Yarnall, Eddie Youman, Shane (Sorry for the eyesore) There are a handful of players that I simply dont believe any cards exist. For example, Bernie Henderson played at A&M back in the early part of the century and played at the MLB-level only in 1921. Over all, there's about 14 of the college players I think are non-existent.....but I always keep my eyes peeled. |
