What are your favorite "out of the norm" songs?
I was thinking about all the music talk on this part of the board, and then it occured to me that I am probably not the only one that likes a song or songs that doesn't really fit in with anything else they listen to and is totally out of the norm for you.
For me my top 5 "out of the norm" songs are: Limp Bizkit - Nookie Heaven 17 - Temptation PM Dawn - Downtown Venus Mazzy Star - Fade Into You Joshua Kadison - Jessie Don't laugh at me too hard please...

Buried Myself Alive or Pretty Handsome Awkward-the Used
most anything by Finch humpty dance-Digital Underground Anything by Eminem. and any hair metal ballad. Wild horses-the Sundays version. Although this one kinda fit's the whole 90's alternative theme, so I don't know if it should count. Last edited by novakjr; 02-07-2011 at 02:01 PM. |

My wife listens to country, so occassionally I'll listen to that when I'm with her.
Other out of the norm songs ... Deanna Carter - How Do I Get There Tony Rich Project - Nobody Knows Taylor Swift - Stay Beautiful And I secretly enjoyed listening to Amy Grant growing up ... Its a good thing none of my buddies or co-workers read this forum |

It's ok, I still kinda secretly like Ace of Bass and Wilson Phillips. Granted, It's more of a jokingly reminiscent thing, but I guess you could still say I like 'em. I think ridiculously bad, pop songs are everyone's guilty pleasure.

Well, probably nothing is out of the norm for me since I enjoy anything that pleases me and that encompasses a LOT of genres.
Here is one song that I used to play very loudly when I was in high school that was disturbing to my mother. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MwQos9L7j8

Lady Gaga
Don't know why but I like her, doesn't really fit with my mostly classic rock tastes. I also like Biggie, 2pac, Eminem, and Jay-Z but very little else in Rap.

I'm guessing this would qualify as "out of the norm". I really like the song "Killing Loneliness" by the Finnish rock band HIM. I greatly enjoy their entire catalog of work, but that's one of my favorites.

Anyone here remember the Fugs? Their music was as far out of the mainstream as was possible. They played such songs as Boobs A Lot and I Feel Like Homemade Sh*t. They were an East Village band in the 1960's.

Tuli Kupferberg died last year, but Ken Weaver and Ed Sanders are still living. I met Tuli a couple of times and he was very friendly.

song
"From the Air" by Laurie Anderson.
As the airplane goes down, the captain's voice over the intercom stays calm and focused. I'm sure this song has a deeper meaning, but I can't figure it out. |

My Punk Rock Top 5;
5) Anything from late 70's/early 80's Portland Punk band Greg Sage & The Wipers... the greatest band noone, seemingly, has ever heard of. 4) NY gutter trash The Dead Boys, "Hey Little Girl" 3) Australias' nuclear fallout sound of Radio Birdman, "Radios Appear" (1973), especially "Hit 'em Again", & Hawaii five-o inspired "Aloha Steve & Dano" 2) LA glitter trash The Dogs, "Slash Your Face". Where distortion went to die. 1) The Ramones, "Road to Ruin" classic LP 14 songs in under 25 minutes now THAT's laying it down.... 1-2-3-4 http://www.radio-birdman.com/musicM.html Hear some Radio Birdman son! Joe Satriani (guitar virtuoso)
No one song in particular. I've been listening to him since 1988 and I've only heard one of his songs played once on the radio. Jantz |

Warning....many different styles are about to be mentioned! The most obscure stuff that I like are probably these:
John Zorn, Kraftwerk, VoiVod, John Faddis, Merciful Fate, Stormtroopers of Death, Samhain, Mr Bungle, Primus, The Residents, Bauhaus...I'm sure there are more!! |
