White Plains show
I notice there is a card show in White Plains on Jan. 15th-17th. I was wondering how the show is, because a player that i like is doing a autograph signing but i just dont want to travel down just for his autograph(3 hour drive). Thanks

I always go to this show, but it is a 10 minute car ride for me. I enjoy it, but there are probably 6-8 tables of interest for the T206 card collector. And perhaps fewer for the pre-war card collector. I often use the admission fee as an excuse to drop off cards to SGC or autographed cards to JSA. I also take the opportunity to discuss grading and authenticating with reps for both SGC and JSA.

I went to the Thanksgiving show while I was in NY. I don't want to be too negative, but for me there really wasn't much there and the Thanksgiving show was supposed to be one of the bigger ones. There is some pre-war but be prepared to overpay. It seems to me like the show I was at only attracted dealers and not collectors in terms of the tables and the men running them. Mostly all of the tables I looked at had huge mark ups on their cards and if you were trying to sell anything it would be at a loss.

There was a pretty good amount of memorabilia at the Thanksgiving show. There were a lot of autograph guys and game used bat guys. I also saw a lot of newspaper and magazines as well as some ticket guys too. But again, most of it was WAY overpriced. I was looking at a copy of one of the more minor NYC newspapers (can't recall the name but not the Daily News) with Maris on the cover after breaking Ruth's record and the guy wanted $600 for it. However I did notice that compared to the card prices the memo guys seemed to be closer to earth.
