| Felix Mendelsohn Photos

I have recently purchased a few 1917-20 Felix Mendelsohn photos. Some of the batch do not have the FM copyright. Is this missing copyright indicative of a certain year or is it common for some of the pictures not to have the copyright designation? In addition, there is a photo of Nemo Leibold which is spelled Nemo Liebold. Is this spelling incorrect on all photos or is this a rare variation? Bob Lemke referred me to this site for help with these questions. Any information about these rare photos would be appreciated. Thank you. Cliff |

The lack of copyright is not uncommon--half of those I own have the copyright and half do not. Also, about two-thirds of mine have the full player name and the others only the surname--those in the latter group all have the copyright except Wambsganss. Bottom line--nothing conclusive. I have not figured out any way to calculate which year a particular card was issued with any certainty--other than of course the Ruth card showing him as a Yankee. Many of the photos show players wearing their 1917 uniforms (with the U.S. flag or a shield in honor of the troops fighting WWI), suggesting that many may have been issued that year or next, since I believe all photos in the set were originals. Iwould love to see any scans you might share. |

Hi Cliff, Mendelsohns are tough to find. Did you get a Baird, Cruise, or Frank Snyder card? I would like to know what team they are portrayed on if so. Thanks, Randy |

I have had many uncataloged cards and variation's, so a mispelled card would not be that uncommon I don't think. Kevin Savage had a large group that sold a few yrs ago which I was lucky enough to be a part of, many were uncataloged. The Krause list is foresure not complete. There is a Joe Jackson in the set as well. Larry Fritsch had it, I have seen it. Great set...I have had a few posts on this card issue before. |

Hi Randy - I said earlier I didn't have any of the 3 guys you were looking for. Since then I went through my show inventory and I do have a Frank Snyder, catcher for the Giants. Thanks again. Cliff |

Thanks for the info Cliff. I would love to see any scans of Mendelsohns, they are rarely seen, and don't get much love.
