| Difference in value of cards per grade level

Hi all, I'm new to collecting pre ww2 cards and was wondering what a ball park bump in value cards get by going up a level in grading? The specific example I'm thinking of is a t206 minor leaguer that I have the option of buying at SGC 3 or 4. Both cards are solid at their grade level. The difference in price between the two is 6 bucks. |

Hi Scott, welcome to the board. I would simply say that the best idea is to carefully examine the card itself and not the holder. I have seen undergraded SGC 30s go for more than the same cards in SGC 40 holders. I don't believe the grade per se between a 30 and 40 is calcuable because aesthetics of the card often plays a role in value. Just my 2 cents. |

A very general rule is to use a *.65 multiplier to go down a grade level. There are a number of reasons that wouldn't apply to a particular situation (e.g. as Bob pointed out, how a card looks for the grade, the scarcity of the card in question, where in the grade scale you are calculating), but that's a very general rule.

| For $6 go with higher grade

Since you seem to feel both are solid for the grade I'd go with the higher grade one for only $6 difference. like Bob said there is no definiive % jump from one grade to the next. It varies especially once you get to the higher grades.
