Thoughts on this Doorstop

Bought this in an antique store near KC. Guy said it came out of an old lawyers estate in KC. What are your thoughts on the item? Thanks.

Are you sure this is a doorstop, not an andiron? I only say it may be an andiron because of the "wear" on the back, looks like it may have been near a fire. In which case there would be two of them. Just a thought. Excellent piece!

True it could be An andiron could be a bookend. I have no idea. It is very heavy and made of cast iron. Anyone have one like it or have any idea of how old it could be? I know the guy I bought it from and he guaranteed it to be old or would refund my money. Thanks, Kenny.

It would be awesome if your piece had a pitching counterpart! Hadn't thought of bookends but your right; a lawyer in KC, lots of books.... hmmm. As far as the year of manufacturing, my uneducated guess would be 1920's-40's (probably not wartime).

I find your post very interesting. I was walking though a antique mall in Carlisle, PA on Wednesday when I found this piece in a case sitting in the back almost hidden. It is just like yours, although yours has more color on it, but it is the same piece. I'm thinking that it a door stop as I have other piece's that are similar. This is the only one that I have seen like this until I saw your post. I don't believe they are reproductions and are very old.
