Many have pointed out that there's a big of bounce right now for vintage Ruth cards, though not across the board. Wonder if you care to comment on: will endure for awhile and--since most people can't afford mega-prices, what would be the best buys in the under-$1000 range.
Very low-graded card from 1920s? A mid-grade for a 1935 Goudey? Are '35 Goudeys too common? Or what? |

The Schapira Brothers candy cards are not beautiful and are handcut from a box, but they are fairly rare and early in his career. You might be able to pick one of those up for a reasonable price and own a tough eary Ruth. That's my off the top of my head pick for a collector on a budget.

I would think you could get a nice eye appeal but techniclally low grade 33 G for under a grand...and if you had a grand to spend, I don't know why you would choose anything else. I am partial to the 181, which I think is cheaper than the others.

Also, if you could pick up a real (I said real) Fro Joy Ruth, that would be a good pickup. Many many many many fakes on the market, but Beckett grades them I believe. You might be able to get a real one for under $1,000.
Boom!, problem solved. Give me my 10% commission. If I stop by your home and you don't have a Schapira and Fro Joy on your mantle, I will be pissed. Oh, perhaps you misunderstood. I don't give recommendations. I give orders. Last edited by drc; 08-31-2012 at 01:28 PM. |

Most of the common Exhibit Ruths (1921, 1926-29 PC, 1927, 1928, 1935) can be had for less than $1000 around VG condition, they each come up for auction a few times a year and are some great looking cards.
Good luck! |
