| 1939 Negro League All-Star photo

This is at a local auction tomorrow. I can't find this image. Does anyone have one to show? Especially the full image, as it appears to be a reprint due to the cropping. But I will check it out anyway. Especially if some of the photo experts think I should. Thanks!

That's a much reproduced photograph, off hand I know it occupies a double page spread in the Ken Burns "Baseball" book and is quite striking for its sharp detail. I'm doing research for a book on Negro League uniforms and that photo was a great help in establishing the ones worn by the NNL in '39. Can't add anything to authentic or not arguement except tread wary, it's probably the most widely reprinted East-West photo out there.

From the picture shown it looks too grainy to be an original. Not enough detail

Jim: The one that you posted has been listed on e-bay numerous times over the past several years, all fakes. Some were stated as such, some were listed as originals. Last edited by bcbgcbrcb; 01-10-2013 at 05:43 AM. |

you can buy them in the "antique" wholesale shops in PA for about $3.49 each if you buy 50 or more. Resale certificate saves you the 6% sales tax

Thanks, guys. I went and looked at it and it is definitely not as sharp an image as I thought (I wish I had Jaybirds' eyes!). Looks like a print of a photo of a photo.
