N172 Old Judge script series

I try and buy the script series cards as they come up for sale and saw a Jack Lynch pose 282-4 on ebay going for under one hundred dollars. www.ebay.com/itm/130864343856

It was ending during work hours today, so I dropped a cover all bids bid of $500 last night. This morning I noticed that it had already been topped, so I bid again at $680 thinking surely that would do it, but it sold for $1009 and I was second underbidder.

My question is about the pricing of this card. Is Lynch difficult, or was the pose difficult, or did 3 people just want to buy it? I can usually pick up non-superstar script cards in the 250-500 range.

As you know, all script cards are somewhat difficult. This Lynch pose is tougher than most and is on several advanced collector's want lists. Despite the paper loss on the front I think it was a good buy at the final price.

It looks like it might be rebacked, and the corner might fall off... It had a nice photo though, for a script series card.

Thanks for the feedback, Jay. I was wondering if I had inadvertently caused the price to jump by bidding too early, as it seems that no reserve ebay auctions often double in the last 10 seconds. At any rate, I will try and post a few script cards that I have on here later today.

I was able to get 2 Diamond S and 1 Number 7 Cigar from the same seller in low grade at prices that were lower than I had expected to pay. I guess it's all about supply and demand.

Lynch is found only in the script series set. The other guys can be found other years. (With the exception of some spotted ties)

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I learned about that this morning. After my $500 bid was overtaken, I looked up the Lynch card in the OJ book to try and see what was going on and saw that his card only came in the script series.

To use a skiing analogy I consider myself an intermediate, or blue slope OJ collector, but I do like to buy the script series cards as they seem like a good value for what you get. The paper loss on the front stopped me from bidding higher, but I still would have been outbid on this one.

Here are 4 that I have. I was thinking I had 5 or 6 of these for some reason, but I only have these four. The higher grade ones are recently from Jay. The trimmed Gerhardt and Esterbrook were bought separately on ebay 8 - 10 years ago.
