Default My First Babe Ruth Auto

How cool is this?? It was a bit pricey, but I picked up this beautiful, autographed George Herman 'Babe' Ruth card at a garage sale of all places this past weekend!! I'm psyched to add this Babe signature to my collection!!

I hope this isn't the wrong place to put this, but I figured people would be entertained to see my good fortune.

It’s a marvelous card--obviously nice, neatly inked name.

George, you’re one unparalleled gamer, unequalled Yankee slugger!!!

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

Overpaying yesterday is simply underpaying tomorrow.

The Babe is lucky he died before Aaron caught him, but he must have been getting nervous around the time Topps realeased this card.. though his clean sig doesn't show it.

Unfortunately, Ruth died long before this card was produced... So it can't be his sig.

I, for one, applaud the sarcasm. Perfectly executed so that you're not quite sure.... unless you're sure.

Well, there's been so much negativity floating around lately, that I decided to do a little thought experiment. I wanted to see if the comments regarding my 'pick up' would venture into the deliriously negative sniping or if they would tend to be more along the lines of, "Sorry, buddy, you got taken." I'm happy to report that the people who chimed in were the latter and not the former. My faith in (baseball card collecting) humanity has been nicely restored!!!

Oh, and I had a hidden message in my original post. Just string the red letters together...

So good!! I love little social experiments

Questions- is that some sort of photo shop magic, or real? Do you actually have in hand and/or know story behind sig?

I did a search for 1973 Babe Ruth cards and another for Babe Ruth autographs. I brought the best images I could find into photoshop and got to work combining the pictures and trying to make it look authentic. I'm glad some of you got a laugh out of it!

That is awesome. I wish I were a photoshop wizard (and had a nice scanner) so that my monthly pick up posts wouldn't rely on the oft crappy auction photos.

I absolutely love the idea.. However part of me wishes it had gone further and allowed for some more intensive and thorough unsubstantiated and uniformed "I know what's going on" speculation. However since it really never did devolve into that.. Or into a public haranguing for having been duped (as in the "you sucka" comments) is reinforcement that all in all this is a great community.

Can't wait to see what you think next.
