I actually find examples with unobtrusive caramel staining more desirable than unblemished copies. To me, it's sort of like a badge of honor for the card, in that you can imagine someone pulling it from that CJ box a century ago. Just adds a certain charm and character to a specimen. So perhaps I'm nuts, but I'd bid higher on one with some well-placed stains. Be interesting to see where others shake out on this.

I completely agree =)
If I could get other E cards with candy stuck to them, I'd do that too. |

I moved this from the BST to get more responses.....As for me, I don't mind candy staining on candy cards if it's not too obtrusive. There is a bit more on this Jennings than I normally care for but for $45 it wasn't a bad pick up...

I completely agree, I love the staining on the card which proves it was pulled from a box. Found this 1915 at the national:

Thanks for moving it, Leon. Much appreciated.
Glad to hear I'm not alone in my preference for a little candy staining! Had been lusting after a Cobb for a loooooong time. Should have a scan coming soon

the difference is essentially a Factory Set vs. hand collated set...
the stain free cards never came in a box of cracker jacks...kind of lessens the value in my eyes... would rather have a card that actually came in the box! |
