Default New Project - 1983 Topps Baseball PSA 10

Well I know I am new here but I am a long time member over on BlowoutCards.com under the name jewcer2k5.

I do a lot of buying and selling of prospects but decided that I wanted to start a real PC (outside of a few prospect ones that I have).

I decided to do PSA 10 cards of my birth year of 1983.

Im looking to get all of them and will pay fair prices. If you have any let me know and I have paypal locked and loaded to buy.

Thanks man, was hoping there would be a little more activity on these forums for older (even if not vintage/pre-war) cards.

+1 on this

Do such cards exist? Seems like that'll be quite a challenge. What's the budget to complete the set? $5k? 10k? I have no idea what this would cost to get the cards on the secondary market, or produce them yourself by buying raw and submitting. If you do the latter, you could probably complete an '83 set in 9/Mint, too

I thought about doing this for '87 Topps, the year I really got into it. What do you think that would cost, if you don't mind my asking?

To more traction on the post-80 board!

It's 792 cards. The 3 big hitters are the Sandberg, Gwynn, and Boggs rookie cards (About $1000-$1200). Lots of commons sell for under $10 but there are so many cards. I'm thinking in the long run it's gonna cost me about $10,000. There are some SUPER low POP commons so might need to spend money grading it. I have a lot of time (really and endless supply) to complete the set so will take them as they come.

So far I grabbed 19 commons and a Rickey Henderson so I didnt have ONLY commons.

I'm certainly not trying to discourage you and I believe collectors are free to collect however they want, but if it were me and I had $10K to drop on a 1983 Topps set, I think I would buy a mint raw set and put the other $9900 in a mutual fund.

In 30 years from now, I guarantee you the mutual fund will be worth several times what a PSA 10 1983 Topps set is worth. Again, I’m no one to tell other people how or what to collect, but I think in 30 years from now you would be more happy with $100K (or more) sitting in a mutual fund with a nice raw ’83 set than you would be with just a PSA 10 ’83 set.

Good luck!

There is some activity as a lot of our collectors cross over to the newer years. But this board is known for Pre-War so that is what gets the most activity. That being said we are a friendly group so I hope you hang out and collect with us. Eventually you might even see a pre-war card/set you would like to collect.

Yea I know that I setup at a show in Philly next to someone that is a big pre-war guy and was telling me about this forum. Figured Id give it a shot. I have been on some others (outside of blowout) and they tend to be filled with mostly kids and its just not worth the effort. Figured this was a good step.

Default 1983 Topps PSA 10

Love the idea...though about it myself for a bit as it is one of my favorite modern sets, but such a tall task! 4sharpcorners.com always has plenty to buy...maybe you can negotiate a bit if buying in bulk. Good luck!

Made a decent purchase from them already. Super non-responsive from my emails and eBay messages but ideally I could work a larger deal with them to get a lot of the >$10 commons that are out there.

Would be nice to keep the cost down on what I can keep it down on.

I know that I will HAVE to get some graded at some point to try and finish this thing off but wanna get as far as I can before that. Really in no rush, just wanna enjoy it.

Probably gonna try and pick up the big boys sooner rather than later.

I am a big fan of the 1983. I think it's one of Topps' nicest sets ever. Good luck!

I think I have about 10K raw cards from this set. If you have a lot of time, why not buy them from me and look for 10s yourself? :-) If you're interested, please PM me. :-)

Default again you have to hand it to psa

without psa grading 1983 cards....the value plummets as less people are interested in paying any money for these cards or competing for low pop cards......everyone would just have their 'mint' sets for 100 bucks..now theres something to shoot for with psa 10s..and still much cheaper than vintage collecting....psa is great for the hobby ...not sure why all the haters out there....

not sure why we are talking about investing in cards....we all know we will lose money in set collecting for the most part...its a hobby people...hobbys cost money and with a little money spread over the years for a psa 10 set, sounds like a fun pursuit....he not paying 10k all at once anyway..
