| 1949 Sacramento Solons Sunbeam TEAM card

Surfing ebay this week I came across a 1949 Sacramento Sunbeam team card. First Time I have ever seen one. I have many PCL type cards and have seen other Sunbeam team cards but never a 1949. I will post a pic when it arrives but wanted to know if anyone had any other info on the issue. Regards Jonathan |

This thread was moved from the memorabilia section as it's a card question. And it really should be post war but it's so close and so scarce, this page seems a better fit. As to the question, I don't remember seeing one (not that I have looked for one).

Arrived today and very happy size is 71/2 x 15 and size I think is why so few survive today. Given out at a game how many are gonna make it home?. Then what are you gonna do with it? Not easy to frame or protect. My Favorite purchase this year.

Various of the PCL teams of that era offered these sorts of large premiums, though not tied into a bakery with card affiliation (which is pretty cool, BTW). Very HTF but fall into that so rare it is obscure trap. I picked up this one of the 1950 San Diego Padres featuring Orestes Minoso:

Adam: The 1950 is a Nice photo. The Sacramento team is on heavy stock and not being a typical 8x10 really makes it stand out. Of Course it is the Sunbeam sponsorship of the giveaway that makes it technically a Baseball card, related closely to the Sacramento players postcards Sunbeam sponsored in 1949. Clearly more Rare than valuable but I am very happy to hang it on my wall. Maybe one day I will stumble on a Bishop team card to hang next to it.

More a b&w photo than a "card." Should be on photo paper, not cardboard. Have a couple of these from mid-'50's PCL Padres, at Westgate Park, but in color. Think they were team hand-outs for paying customers at the gate entrances. Lot of players from the '49 Sac team were actually on cards from the '49 Bowman PCL issue. Pretty cool! |
