Default 1950s Paint-a-player paint by numbers, a cool colorful rarity.

While chatting with a friend who collects cardinals he shared this collection of 3 "paint-a-player" paint by number canvases with me. I consider myself somebody who is quite familiar with postwar oddball sets but these I had never seen before. I am thrilled to have another item for my Schoendienst PC to chase *wink wink* and it looks like there is some superstar power in the set based on the box. So something for other player/team collectors to chase as well.

One of the examples he got (Stu Miller) is actually colored, and wow it is beautiful. The facial shadowing is spectacular for a 1950s painting kit.

The kit dates roughly from 1953-1956 based on Gilliams debut in 1953 and Stu Miller/Hemus leaving the cardinals in 1956.

Please share if you have any colored or not.

Default 1950's Paint A Player

I have a Paint-A-Player Set. The 3 pictures are all Brooklyn Dodgers: Item #J500 which includes Johnny Podres, Pee Wee Reese and George Shuba.
The item is rarely seen and this is the first one with that I have seen with only Dodgers.
There are 2 different boxes: the one shown in the original thread and one with Musial instead of Mantle (not sure about all the other players).

I attached an article from a 1954 toys and novelties magazine describing the game.

I tried uploading some other photos but had no luck. It seems anything taken by my phone doesn't upload on net54.

Almost every picture taken with a phone is too large to upload on this site. They need to be reduced first, before trying to upload.

Yes, whoever completed the Stu Miller did a commendable job. I venture it was a lady or girl, not only for how carefully it was executed, but simply because of the three in the pack, they chose Stu Miller! I feel like most boys would have gone with the biggest star (Schoendienst).

These would have been so great if autographed!

Iphones also take pictures as a HEIC file, not sure those are acceptable to the upload drop down menu. Best to convert to PDF before upload.

Thank you for the replies so far, some amazing info. 135 player checklist and only 1 member so far has 3 dodgers. Seems like a damn tough set.

I bought the Minoso off ebay today for $50. Figured that was reasonable for the rarity.

Default Paint-A-Player

Thank you Leon. I retook the photo using a smaller image on my camera and it was able to publish on net54.

The box is stamped in the blank panel on the side: J500 Brooklyn Dodgers Reese-Podres-Shuba
