Max WederFor those of you in the Pacific Northwest, this is to let you know we'll be having a meeting of the local SABR group at the BC Sports Hall of fame on Saturday, August 19. The doors will be open at 1:00, so you'll have a chance to visit the Hall before the organized portion of the meeting begins around 1:30.
Reg Clarkson, who will turn 81 on that day, will be one of the speakers, talking about his time with the Vancouver Capilanos in 1947 and 1951.
We'll have others talk about the National SABR convention in Seattle, a trivia quiz, and as a further incentive to attend (especially if it's sunny), there will be a collection of about 100 to 200 baseball books available to attendees (spring cleaning at a certain person's house where the post-meeting bbq will be). The books will be free of charge, but for those of you who wish, I'd just ask that you make a suitable donation to Kit Krieger's efforts to support the old ballplayers he visits in Cuba.
As before, Jennifer and I will be having a post-meeting bbq at our house (2953 Ontario Street, between 13th and 14th, 3 blocks east of Cambie, 2 blocks west of Main). We'll be supplying the hot dogs (both veggie and whatever that other stuff is) and buns, and some beer and pop. If you have an insatiable thirst, you might want to bring something more to drink.
After the BBQ, for those interested, there is a Vancouver Canadians Baseball game up the street at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The meeting (no admission charge) and BBQ are open to all, so please feel free to pass the invitation on to those you know who are interested in baseball.
Thanks,
Max
