t206 portraits and action poses

i've always wondered what makes the portrait cards in the t206 set more valuable than the action poses. is it just that the portraits were printed in lower runs or is it an aesthetic thing? do they generally sell at a higher price because they are more visually appealing or is it a rarity issue? just something i've been wondering about for a while.
