| Clark Griffith's 6 Inning Complete Game

I'm sure this happened occasionally at the turn of the century as a result of darkness or weather, but while browsing a T206 Griffith in the BST, I got to thinking how close to end of his playing career he was when he was with Cincinnati and pictured on his T206 cards. I dug into his stats and discovered that he had 1 appearance for Cincinnati in 1909 but his stat line is interesting: Year|Team|G|GS|W|L|ERA |CG|IP| H |ER|R|BB|SO 1909|Reds| 1| 1 |0 |1|6.00| 1 |6 |11| 4 |8| 2| 3 He is credited with a complete game but only 6 innings pitched in a loss. There is a pretty cool article as well about this game and the circumstances that led to Griffith pitching his first game in over 2 years. http://sabr.org/gamesproj/game/octob...sel-youngsters |

I see that he played alongside a couple of other T206ers in that game: Roy Ellam and Chappie Charles.

Thats an interesting story of the game on the link you provided. Sounds like a precursor to the expanded rosters of todays game and giving the prospects a shot to pan out or not on the field.

The first two no-hitters for the Pirates were shortened games. One was due to darkness, while the other was the second game of a doubleheader and agreed to be shortened ahead of time.
