Pre-War Kroger/Reds?

I was fortunate to pick up this Kroger Bread Indianapolis Indians card from a fellow member last year. I’ve been wondering, with Kroger being founded in Cincinnati 50+ years earlier, are there any Kroger Reds items of any kind that pre-date this set? Any Reds collectors have early Kroger pieces?

Kroger was a grocery store. I think they did their own baking, but it's curious that they would issue a promotional card for only that segment in that store. I suspect the names are coincidental and there was an independent Kroger Bakery in Indianapolis. Great card, BTW.

The collectors’ consensus is that these were tied with a string to loaves of bread — the 6 known copies all have that tear at the top. It’s a pretty great promo for being the only grocer with in-house bread.

It just seems like Cincy would’ve had a sports promo before Indy.

My records show I got it from a collector who used to be on the board and had some eclectic stuff, Frank Ward. I think he lived in the Hawaiian mountains, or something.

I don't remember on the original 4 but most probably eBay a long time ago.
