Default December Pick-Up Thread

Don’t know I’ve ever started one of these ….

A Danny Hoffman is one I had not seen an example of since collecting nothing but Howe’s stamped cards in 2007. Now just 97 away from having a complete set with Howe’s stamp.

Bought in November, arrived in December. The last 2 for my Grover Hartley collection (see the other thread for more info). The Merchants Bakery is the only one known to exist to my knowledge and actually came from a fellow Net54 member (thank you Mark).

You shouldn't use the word "chipping" when showing a T205.

First card of this type. Successful Farming - Zimmerman. I think it’s a promotional set.

Awesome Goudey Williams. I traded mine away just before the prices skyrocketed. Or, more likely, just after they skyrocketed but before I realized it.

Centering. The card is borderline miscut.

Buy the card not the holder. Centering is off top to bottom but it’s pretty dead on left to right and it’s a captivating image in general. I like to think this card features more of it than usual.

Since the pics are busted, and I don’t currently use a hosting site, I’ll just have to post the new pickup verbally. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the picture issues get ironed out soon, as I need to do some serious selling on the BST of some things i have upgraded the last few months to pay back the account for this purchase. My wife was going through the REA catalog to see if there was any fun Cardinals stuff as a Christmas present for her dad, and actually remembered how much the opening bid was on what I won, so I’m not going to be able to downplay this purchase!!

I am the proud new owner of the two L1’s in REA last night. Being in the land of no real shows all my life, I’ve never even seen an L1 in person, so these will be a brand new experience for me when I get to open the box! I’m pretty excited to have these guys coming in a couple weeks! Hopefully pics will be good to go by the time they get here and I can share.

1912 L1 Large Leather Premium #127 Ty Cobb
1912 L1 Large Leather Premium #116 John McGraw

I may try to do a full framed display the wall with the McGraw. After I pay the account back, I’ll take a look for a McGraw T3, Silk Premium and maybe a nice autograph or something to go with. I always have a hard time parting with cash I could put towards my love of T206 HOFer front/back combos, but feel pretty good about adding these two L1’s and will force myself to clean up the collection a little to fund them! I was bummed I missed the Walsh that sold last year and kept thinking about it, so feel good about finally landing these two.

I’m looking forward to seeing (or just reading) what you all grabbed!

Enjoy the day,
Bob

Hey Mike! That’s for adding the pics for me! Always great to hear from you, it’s been way too long. I hope you and the family are doing well! Come on back to the T206 backs game, always fun wheeling and dealing with you.

Thanks again,
Bob

.................. rough ...... but tough .................

bridnash.jpg

Interestingly enough, Bridwell may have been with Nashville in Spring training of 1916, but he never played for them. In 1916 and 1917, he played for the Atlanta Crackers of the Southern Assoc.

Fun fun, Scott

Default 1952 Num Num

Picked up this signed Steve Gromek 1952 Num Num Potato Chip card ( regional set for the Cleveland Indians)
Love everything about this card( a little oversized, check…signature of player , check) , but it is a shame PSA calls it a TRADING CARD……it is a righteous Num Num card. How can I see this on eBay and determine it is a real card , not a reprint , but the Num Nut who slabbed it couldn’t. I see this quite frequently lately, especially on cards with signatures. BUT…..I’m thrilled to have it, Steve Gromek is a part of the baseball integration story…a BIG part and no…I’m not reslabbing it. I know what it is and that’s all that matters.
