| AWH Caramels

Posted By: TIK I picked up an AWH Caramel on consignment - it has a bad cut on all 4 sides - can anyone tell me if these cards were cut off a box or if they were issued as a card?? The gentleman that gave me this card claims it was cut from a box - |

Posted By: leon I don't think they were cut from a box. Not for sure (although a few lurkers might know) where they exactly came from. If I had to guess I would say they came in some kind of caramel package (duh)....but that's just a guess...I do think they are neat though.....and am always looking for more. |

Posted By: jay behrens How many different backs are there? I was only aware of the 2 in the first pic. I've never seen a back like the one on Leon's card. |

Posted By: leon I have been told that the AWA is one of one, or one of two known, by everyone I have spoken with. Getting back to Terry's first question about the cut though...it does look like there is some unevenness to the cuts on a few of the cards I have. Not cut from a box but maybe hand cut? (as many were)......regards |

Posted By: Glen V I've heard the E222's are full of back variations. Notice this one has different corner designs than the others. So far all four are different. Any more? |

Posted By: Mark Very Little known about the series. I believe, like others above that they are an insert set, rather than a box design set, but cutting variances exist. I've noted the following on the series so far.... On the fronts, five different principal colors are used (Black, Brown-sepia,Green, Blue, Red, although it should be noted that a range in shades is common (Hawaiian punch red, cranberry red, black cherry red, etc) and not too much energy should be expended on those micro-varieties. On the backs I have observed two different colors used for printing, red & blue (Again, many micro-varieties in shades) and six different printing variations on AWH. I have never owned an AWA back,& I'm not certain how many different designs are known on that variation. |

Posted By: Paul I am no expert on E222s. Not even close. But I strongly suspect these cards were not cut from boxes. I cannot think of a single vintage card cut from a box that has anything printed on the back. The only modern sets I can think of are the Hostess sets, which have statistics on the back, not an ad. |
