If you had an untainted original card, would you have it:

a) slabbed and graded?
b) slabbed as authenticated?
c) leave as is because you like to 'feel' it sometimes?
d) put in a lucite screwdown brick because it looks better than slabbed?

Why would anyone answer "cause they want to feel it" ???

If you are a collector and it is a sweeeeeeeeet card - you slab it in a 1 inch screwdown- Griffith -Clarke -Collins type ,a 1/2 inch screwdown.

only if you are selling, would you slab it.

in 3-ring binders...I never get anything slabbed. When I want to sell, I make some arrangement with buyer, either accepting the raw price, or more money if the card grades (when he gets it graded). This one I broke out of a PSA 6 holder (always break them out if I buy graded):

Letter "c" first,(hold it, look at it, feel it) then letter "d" second,(put it into lucite screwdown card holder) then into my fireproof safe, never to see the light of day. (maybe once a month tops, if I feel like looking at them)

I like to feel and smell 'em. 1" and 1/2" lucite bricks for the GREAT ONES; the rest in penny sleeves & top loaders.

I have had two cards damaged by the pressure from screw-down holders. In one case the particle left a discernable divot in an otherwise pristine 1954 Topps card right on the white border. In another case the pressure caused a number of hairline creases to appear in the surface of an exhibit card. Putting that much pressure on a card is a bd idea.

This card was creased because of a screwdown it was in. It bowed from top to bottom is the reason why it happened. I do have my most valuable cards in SGC holders to protect them and IF I ever were to sell them it gives the buyer a little better piece of mind...regards

edited to say I was told that the crease is not from a screwdown....I believe if it were from one then this is what it would look like though...

what screwdowns are you muggs and muggettes using???

either yuns are tighning to hard or careless or left a screw loose ,is that correct?

I have been using them for 18 yrs and no problems....they go into a soft sleeve and centered and gracefully put to bed.

and.........I use the 6$ holders for most, if you are using the 50 holders....uh no-
wonder!!!!!

Screwdowns are okay but you can't tighten the screws. On thicker cards as you tighten the screws the card is pushed away from the pressure and towards the center. Then when you tighten the other end the card again gets pushed towards the center but this time it has no where to go but bow, bend, or crease. Sometimes right away and sometimes when its had enough.

Too much pressure on corners can also cause the surface of come cards to glue to the screwdown probably with the help of nasty chemicals soaked up like a sponge by the card torqued down.

If screwdown is used card should be put in archival mount with a minimal amount of pressure applied to hold card put.
