I used to access this forum at work through Google. The phrase "network54 vintage" in the search window would yield this forum as the first available link. But no longer. And at the end of the page reads the following disclaimer:

"In response to a complaint we received under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 3 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint for these removed results."

My question is did someone issue a DMCA complaint against this forum and, if so, who and why?

This is crap. The Digital Millenium Copyright Act is all about copying songs and movies and such, I just looked at it to make sure. Not some old, uncopyrighted image of a baseball card from a century past. I suggest emailing Google, if that is where you got the message, and asking them to look into what this board does... then they would see that the DMCA does not really apply to the VBC Forum.

it would be nice if the link of the complaint actually worked, it seems that makinga false report can open someone up to liabity suits. my guess is that a former disgruntled poster, perhaps one with a fake thorpe or someone who was looking to buy a low grade cobb filed the complaint.

I've got far bigger issues than some bogus BS about our Forum. Plus, our lawyer to non-lawyer ratio is quite high so I doubt we would let this hurt our little family....We have reinforcements ..regards all

There is more to this .... it depends on where you work, it sounds to me like you've got a filter on at work that shouldn't apply to this site, but does. It's more a question for your works IT staff than for the legal eagle's...

Not as unlikely as you think....
it is possible, and once again i'm just talking based on circumstances, that your it departments don't manage their own settings... it would be like a virus scan update if you look at it that way.... who knows.... but it's definitely not a world wide web issue.

I am seeing the same message as well and I work from home as an independent consultant/computer programmer so this does not have anything to do with filters that were implemented at anyones place of work.

It would be interesting to be able to read the complaint that was filed if that link were working. A lot of sites which have links to the forum come up in the results but its appearent that Google has filtered out the forum itself in their results.

Leon, I don't think its a huge deal but it will be interesting to see if you get some type of contact on this through Network 54. I'd be curious to know what the complaint was and from where it originated.

interesting....we have an auction house run out of my home office as well as it services...after hearing what scott had to say...i'm curious to know what the deal is .... i couldn't imagine that it's your internet provider, but i have no trouble with this site through google or anywhere else..

It's very likely not specific to this forum, but to all of Network54, which hosts 100's of sites. All it would take would be for one of them to violate some DCMA "rule" and have it reported.

Theres no trouble with accessing the site itself... Its just that it has appeared to be "removed" from the list of sites that come up when someone does a Google search. An action that Google appears to have taken based upon a complaint from someone or some organization.

Its only an issue for someone that doesn't remember the actual URL to access the forum and wants to use Google to find the board.

They wont find the board itself but there are plenty of other links that do show up that, in turn, have links to the forum so people will still be able to find the forum.

I'm just concerned if Google passes this complaint on to Network54 and they, in turn, start giving our moderator dudes any trouble.


Edited to add that Bill C. makes an excellent point that it could be some other forum on Network54 that has caused this filter to be put in place by Google so probably nothing for our exhaulted moderators to concern themselves with.

Our moderator/manager needs to do the google search as above, then scroll to the bottom where this is...

and click on the link to Digital Millennium Copyright Act which will appear in blue. At the bottom of that page is the counter-notification procedure. While doing that, it would be nice to see exactly what the complaint was, the link to it seems nonfunctional.

Putting VBC Forum in your favorites of bookmarks would avoid the need to google it.

For instance, a reference in "OLd Cardboard" that recommended Net54 was sited, and a couple of other indirect clearing of throat.
