congrats to the winner, is it king or jeff??? someone was inspired by the "overpay thread" .

some nice prices for the d304s...bill always get strong prices.

edited: 80k for young, 45k each for matty and wagner. probably one collector is trying to complete a million $$$ high grade set. do him a favor and contact bill if you have any he might need!

Its certainly a great card. And I guess last night it was indeed a 100K card. I'm sure the seller is happy!

This card along with some of the REA cards definately show that the 100K barrier is no longer reserved just for Wagner and Ruth. Maybe 500K will become the new Ruth/Wagner barrier and Cobbs, Matty's, Youngs, Ansons, etc will fill in the 100-500K.

It has to be more than one collector or the guy/gal would have won that Cobb for $30k.

I think bread cards are the absolute finest cards in the hobby, but the final sale numbers on the d304's last night are outrageous!

Those were some healthy prices on the D304's and this Cobby. I think the banner ad Bill had us do for him did it .....Congrats on another great auction Bill. I bid but was shut out....nothing in the "Have to have" category in this one..... I wonder if bread card prices will continue.....

I remember a similar graded Young and Matty last year having trouble selling near $10k. Why the huge difference this year?

I had a bunch of D304 in a 2007 auction in similar condition that went for about one eighth of these prices, and I was generally satisfied at the time. Cards don't increase in value eight fold in one year. Guess it was two or three bidders going back and forth all night.

I agree with Dan that bread cards are great, but this great?

I've already got one, thank goodness. I did bid on it, albeit at only a fraction of the final price. LOL.

Jeff, if you are desparate for one, you can have mine for just 40% of the price. I have a 2, a 5 sold for 100K...since 2/5 = 40%, that should make mine around 40K, right?

Most cards trade within a certain price range. A $250 might sell for $50 more or less on a given day, but won't stray much farther than that.

But once a card passes a certain scarcity or condition threshold, it no longer has a perceived value range. It's not so much "what is it worth" but more "what will it take to win it?"

PSA also graded a Brunners an 8! How much is that guy worth?

Edited to add - SGC also has a 80 graded Brunners Cobb.

I do have a friendly comment though. If you are going to tout the back you might want to show it? .......Personally, I would rather buy yours for that price than one a grade higher for 30k more. After the last few big auctions I am in the recouping mode though.....Those are nice cards and good luck with them.

I didnt' take it that way, I have no problem at all. I think when we see record prices, it is only natural to see supply out there to see if there is continued demand .. and that's what I did.

I wasn't willing to shell out the extra 15 cents
Seriously though, I didn't scan it before and I'm simply too lazy to scan it now. If someone is seriously interested in the card, I'm sure they'll email me and then I can scan it for them at that time.

Robert- My guess, and King will answer I am sure, is that it's a Fleischmanns.....and as you well know they are the 3rd toughest back.....behind Weber and Martens.....but then again you wrote the article not me....

I had to double check when Robert asked .... the Young is a Butter Krust back, correctly labeled. The Marquard is a Brunners back, incorrectly labeled as Butter Krust.

Great card either way, but the fleischmans back really makes it great.

I know sgc messed up a few of these with the butter krust label instead of brunners. Nobody's perfect I guess.
