We were wondering whether any Board Members visited the Reading Show
on September 26th and what, if anything they uncovered.

No doubt the rains that have darkened the skies and flooded the highways
will make a difficult road trip ever more challenging for all but the true
die-hard collector.

It would be great to hear about a Major Find.

Biggest surprise was the announcement of the sale of the show to Hunt Auctions, effective for the March show (in Valley Forge). The pre-war cards were well represented, as always, with prices from fair to what the ...?
Turnout was better than other Fridays at Reading, but everyone seemed to gripe (again) at the location.

No major finds on my end (but I wasn't looking for cards). It has been great to catch up with everyone, and nice to finally meet Ted Z. I agree that the turnout seemed to be better than previous Friday opening nights. It started out somewhat slow, but picked up as the evening progressed.

Mastro was suppose to be at the Reading Show. Did anyone see if they were showing any highlights for the upcoming October Classic Auction?

Tony, Saw Ron Oser manning the Mastro booth as usual.
With stacks of past catalogs on the table, i didn't notice
any items on display for their next auction.
Huggins & Scott had a bunch of stuff displayed for their
upcoming auction.

GAI had a table but it was vacant
Beckett, PSA & SGC all seemed busy.
Had the pleasure of talking w/ Ted Z for awhile and
was thrilled when Bill Huggins handed me the Leaf
variation, which Ted stated it was a prototype and
explained to me many nuances of the set.

As always, its good to go to a living breathing show now & then.
Looking forward to its new location in March at Valley Forge

No majors finds for me either, but like several others I enjoyed meeting Ted Z. and picking up another T206 with the purple numbers back stamp from him. A nice example of Mike Powers, and with a Hindu back just for that added touch. Thanks a lot Ted!

I thought it was a bit humorous that all of the auction houses in attendance were giving away past catologs with smiles and Hunt was charging $5 for theirs.

Dan McKee had some really nice stuff at his table as well. He was very nice and of course knowledgable.

Wasn't the '49 Leaf Newhouser variation supposed to make an appearance at this show? I'd be interested to hear what Ted or anyone else has to say about it.

This was one of the best shows I have been at finding stuff.

I got 21 W514 including some minor stars and a SGC 60 Alexander.

I picked up 2 Craker Jack upgrade commons that will boost my cards from 2-4 assuming they cross from the PSA holders (I think they will)

I got 3 Boston Stores including Doyle, Fred wIlliams and Bob Shawkey.

Lastly, I picked up a 1947 Sports Exchange Joe Jackson.

I did all this with trades and a small amount of cash. I actually came home with more cash then I went with as I sold a couple cards.

Needless to say I am SUPER happy right now, I just need to cross this pile of PSA graded crap into nice SGC holders.

I also had PSA authentic a Mantle autograph on a comic which passed.

All in all I couldn't ask for a much better show.

It sounds like a few collectors enjoyed a good show

We were wondering whether there were any ultra high grade
rare pre-WWII type cards for sale at the show

Rare 19th century issues
Early E cards in grades 7-9
High grade bread cards

T 209. T 216 or T 217

Rare early 20th century advertising pieces
Great Negro League items
Players League, Union Association or Federal League items?

Would love to know if anyone saw any items like these for
sale ... Thanks

I searched the show for T213s and T216s. I found a few HOF T213-2s no 1s or 3s and zero T216s. Highest grade was a Mathewson SGC 40. I may have missed but I asked most every dealer at the show.

met, Ted Z for the 1st time, and thought very highly of him. i love what he does for this hobby/board; and for the rest of the community along with many others to expand our knowledge in t206's. I wish to get my t206 Hal Chase collection up to where his is

i saw a post card i never seen before in my life, it was between 1906-1909 detroit tigers team and had a fold out insert kinda like an accordian set up with the whole team folding out player for player. it was in good shape, naturally it was posted, but i found it very unique.. any details in what this is?

I just want to say for the record that all of you in regions of the country with regular shows like this that feature pre-war should consider yourselves lucky. Down here in Alabama the pickings are slim; we don't even have any mall-type shows locally to hope to find the occasional pre-war card in a case.

So until the family and I happen to vacation at an opportune time, I will just have to live vicariously through these posts. Sigh.
