| OT: Honus trivia

I have single signed balls from the last living teammates of Cobb (Hayworth) and Ruth (Werber.) Does anyone out there know who the last living teammate of Honus Wagner is? I suppose I could research, but thought maybe someone knew this off the top of their head. Thanks, Ken earlywynnfan5@hotmail.com |

I would contact coach's corner, they're probably doing a signing this weekend with some of them. |

| I don't think CC.....

......would bother with their teamates, they specialize in custom signatures of only the stars themselves. I actually only need 3 more members to complete my collection of signers of the Last Supper. All purchased and authenticated by CC. Last edited by Shoeless Moe; 12-23-2011 at 08:41 AM. |

My guess is Burleigh Grimes who pitched on the 1917 Pirates (Wagner's last year). Grimes died in December 1985 at the age of 92! I just went through the entire 1917 Pirates team to see when each died (bored at work today!) and Grimes died most recently (1985). I would assume that any team prior to 1917 would not yield anybody older than that. That's my guess. |

I'm gonna guess Tommy Henrich who died 2 years ago in Dec. 2009 at the age of 96. He was one of the youngest players on the team in Gehrig's last year, so I don't think there would be anybody that is still alive or died more recently than Dec. 2009.

If you include Wagners' career as a hitting coach (1933-1951) for the Pittsburgh Pirates I believe Vernon Law (1930 - ) was a teammate of Wagner's in 1951. He's still alive, lives in Idaho.

Carmen Hill died in 1990 at the age of 94, so he would be among Honus's oldest teammates. And there are a good number of living Bucs who knew him as a coach, including Kiner.

On the topic of Honus Wagner, does anyone know how I can find his genealogical family tree?

I think you mean genealogical. A quick Google yielded this thread with very limited information... http://genforum.genealogy.com/wagner/messages/785.html There was also a thread on ancestry.com... http://boards.ancestry.com/localitie...1475.1/mb.ashx Not sure where else to try.
