| Goldin auction

Goldin has auction closing April 1. There is a nice T206 Cobb green PSA 5 with great centering. Currently is at $7,500 and seems awful low. A 1972 Roger Staubach PSA 9 is at $8,000. which is $500. more than the Cobb! Jeez, is everyone waiting for the last minute on the Cobb?

You can't even compare the two, that's an unfair assessment. I'm sure the Cobb guys are waiting.

Is that the same PSA 5 Cobb there's a thread on now with the paper-loss on the back?

Correct, 2 areas of paper loss. It's a beautiful card ( front) but someone will buy the holder.

| Thx

Paper loss? On a PSA 5? Ok, that explains it. Thanks for info, might have come close to a bid myself. Whew! Edited to say - and possible back staining as well. No thanks.

Really kind of amazing how many totally botched grades are in Goldin and LOTG's current catalogs. Seems to me Al must point out 10 of them. One has a stamp on the back that was missed! Sheesh. Do these guys drink during the day when they are grading?

If they do, then I'll be sending a fifth of Fireball next time I submit cards.

How do you miss that paper loss? Doesn't PSA say that after a card gets its' initial grade it is reviewed by another grader. Maybe they get a tax credit for hiring blind workers. On a separate issue, doesn't the card also look trimmed at the top?

They came out a while ago and said that they will take overall eye appeal into consideration when grading a card, meaning, they reserve the right to break their own rules.

They should be consistent, but I agree that small amounts of paper loss on an otherwise beautiful card should never be graded a 1 or 2 or whatever they usually grade out at.

They miss the paper loss because they aren't careful enough. As for the trimming on the green Cobby, I think it is just off centered top to bottom as the bottom makes up for the top. Kind of like this one Jay. Had I not checked with you first I too could have thought this N172 was trimmed. I was leaning in the direction that it wasn't trimmed before I reached out to you though. I got it for a song too... Fortunately the board member and ebayer (hey Chris) was selling the holder and not the card. The card would have cost more in the correct holder.....and I don't even want to hear "min size" as that is a stupid comment on N172s, imo....

The Goldin catalog very honesty disclosed the issue and make no attempt to hide the issue. I give them props for that. The right thing to do and probably not always done so unambiguously.
