Yankee ID help
Hi Guys:
I collect the rare little known Kernel - Fresh Nuts 12x12 Team Photos that were issued from 1954 to 1958 for all MLB Teams I recently picked up a 1957 Yankees team photo from the set. This photo was taken after 6/15/57 as Suitcase Simpson is shown. He was traded to the Yanks on that date for Ryne Duren and Jim Pisoni who are not in the photo. I am having trouble IDing a player or two going by the 57 Yanks roster on baseballreference.com. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYY/1957.shtml In the first photo below is the entire team shot. The second photo shows two players. I believe Tommy Byrne is on the left. Anyone agree or disagree? The player on the right I THINK I figured out who he is by process of elimination looking at the roster. What say you all? The final photo shows Sal Maglie on the left and Joe Collins on the right. So who is the "monkey in the middle"? I have an idea but the guy I think it is is not listed on the roster, and looking at the roster I see no name that goes with the face. Looking for your thoughts. I will unveil my thoughts on these mystery men after a few others have chimed in hoping someone else knows for sure or comes up with the same name(s) I have in my head. All thoughts welcomed. Fred |

I'm thinking Al Cicotte and Rudy Serrett.

Thanks Darren!
My suspicions were correct with Al Cicotte. And as I said, the other fellow was not on the roster. So, who is Rudy Serrett?? He does not show up anywhere on baseballreference.com?? Was he a bonus baby who NEVER played?? Fred |

Rudy Serrett pitched from 1957 through 1961 in the minor leagues, mostly with the New York Yankees organization. The Yankees signed Serrett when he was just 17 years old and assigned him to Peoria in the Three-I League. He pitched in 8 games, going 1-0, and despite his youth and lack of experience, the big club called him up in September 1957. He is visible in team photos from that month, though he did not ever appear in a regular-season game in the majors. Serrett never got above Double-A ball in the remaining four years of his pro career. He was 11-12 for the 1958 Greensboro Yankees, with 105 walks in 214 IP. He tied for 5th in the Carolina League in losses and was sixth in walks. In 1959, he had a 9-11, 4.36 record for the Binghamton Triplets. He tied for 8th in the Eastern League in defeats. In 1960, he was with Binghamton (6-7, 3.60) and the Amarillo Gold Sox (0-2). The next year, Rudy wound down with Amarillo (1-1) and the Charleston White Sox (8-7, 3.57) Mike |

A month on the roster of a pennant-winning team. More than most players will ever experience. I wonder if he was on the World Series roster?
